Join our Technology Team and advance your career as a Java Backend Engineer (Identity & Access Management)
The Java Backend Engineer – Identity & Access Management role focuses on developing and maintaining backend services supporting enterprise identity and access management solutions within bp’s Supply, Trading & Shipping business.
The role combines hands-on software engineering with support of critical business processes in a regulated environment, ensuring secure and reliable access to systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development and ongoing improvement of IAM-related applications, working with Java-based technologies and integrating with a complex application landscape. Working within an Agile and DevOps environment, the role requires collaboration across teams, problem-solving capability and a structured approach to delivery.
This is an opportunity to work on business-critical systems with real impact on operational efficiency and risk management, while continuously developing technical and professional skills.
In this role You will:
Champion a strong culture of safety and security, ensuring it is embedded in every aspect of your work and delivery
Design, develop, and enhance backend components and integrations that support Identity & Access Management (IAM) solutions within the Supply, Trading & Shipping domain
Partner closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate requirements into scalable technical solutions, contributing to a well-prioritized backlog
Collaborate with third-party vendors and technologies (such as RSA) to continuously improve and extend IAM capabilities
Drive high standards of reliability, performance, and stability by adhering to engineering best practices, security principles, and architectural guidelines
Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve technical challenges, contributing to ongoing system and process improvements
Develop and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation, including system designs, architecture diagrams, and operational guidelines to support knowledge sharing and long-term sustainability
What You will need to be successful:
Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
Strong Java backend development skills and OOP knowledge
Experience with SQL/relational databases and Linux environments
Background in building and supporting applications & integrations
Solid problem-solving skills with a focus on practical solutions
Good communication and collaboration across teams
Knowledge of clean coding, testing, and version control
Ability to manage priorities and deliver quality in a production environment
Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Desirable Criteria:
Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments is an advantage
Experience with Identity & Access Management (IAM) systems or security-related applications
Experience working in Agile or DevOps teams
Experience collaborating with distributed or vendor-supported teams
Interest in automation and continuous improvement
