Description
Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Youth and Health Impact, the Director of Healthy Living has direct responsibilities for the Wellness Department and supervisory responsibilities over the wellness member service associates, personal trainers and group exercise instructors. This position operates in accordance with the provisions and policies of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts and the bylaws of the Boroughs Branch.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the Wellness Department including supervision of staff, programs, and budget responsibilities.
- Direct Supervision of all group exercise instructors
- Responsible for the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, supervision, recognition, and terminations for all Wellness staff under the direction of the Senior Director of Health & Youth Impact.
- Ensure all group exercise instructors are in compliance with the minimum education, certification, and/or continuing education requirements of the department.
- Oversee general management, cleanliness, and upkeep of the group exercise and spinning studios, wellness center and related equipment.
- Inventory and order all operating supplies for the department
- Assume responsibility for the development and marketing of health and fitness programming including brochures, incentive programs, bulletin boards, email newsletters etc..
- Supervise floor staff in the wellness department ensuring that the wellness center is adequately staffed to answer or address any member concerns
- Will teach or lead classes in the wellness department and have scheduled hours covering the wellness desk at least 15 per week.
- Responsible for preventive maintenance of equipment and ensure timely repair of equipment to minimize disruption of service to members.
- Assume responsibility for supplies of wellness-related marketing collateral including program brochures, workout cards, orientation folders, office supplies, etc.
- Design, promote and implement safe and effective fitness programs consistent with members’ interests and abilities.
- Ensure that the Wellness Center and related programming meet the highest standards of safety, risk management and member service.
- Assume overall management of the New Member Orientation program including schedule creation, facilitation and follow up for all new members as well as providing orientations as needed for new members. Serve as the primary contact for all Active Older Adults programming including scheduling and leading of exercise programs.
- Execute other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Branch Director
- Work with Sr. Director of Youth and Health Impact to develop, monitor and achieve Wellness budget goals annually. Accept responsibility for the control of expenditures and production of revenues. Ensure that all department and programs under your supervision meet the highest standards of program and member service quality and safety.
- Employ a range of metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of wellness programs and recommend curriculum improvements as needed.
- Recommend salary recognition, promotion, or termination as necessary and ensure that proper training and growth opportunities are available to all staff under your supervision.
- Provide support to the Branches Annual Campaign
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred in a Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation or Exercise Science or health related field. Will accept a minimum of three or more years of experience working in a Wellness Center or recreation facility preferable in a nonprofit setting.
- Minimum of two years of supervisory experience with increasing responsibilities.
- Requires training, certifications or experience with group exercise, program development, YMCA fitness programs or YMCA specialist training.
- Able to direct programs, provide supervision of volunteers & staff, monitor budgets, marketing wellness programs & fundraising.
- Must be knowledgeable and able to operate computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills & experience with diverse populations preferred.
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications within first 60 days of hire.
Job Type: Full-Time Exempt
Schedule: 40hrs/week. Typically, Sunday-Thursday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and will also include occasional nights, Friday and weekend shifts based on needs.
Pay: $47,476 yearly
