Position Summary
Reports To Production Supervisor. The Assembly Technician is responsible for safely assembling, packaging, inspecting, and preparing manufactured products for shipment according to company standards, work instructions, and customer specifications. This role supports production flow by ensuring products are assembled correctly, defects are identified and communicated, and finished goods are packaged professionally and efficiently. The Assembly Technician plays a critical role in maintaining safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery performance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Safety
- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Safely operate assembly tools, hand tools, power tools, carts, and material handling equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or near misses immediately.
- Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement activities.
Assembly & Production
- Assemble products and components according to prints, work instructions, and production requirements.
- Verify correct materials, parts, hardware, and accessories are used during assembly.
- Perform fit-up and alignment checks to ensure products meet dimensional and appearance standards.
- Assist with staging materials and moving work-in-process to the next operation.
- Maintain production flow and support departmental throughput goals.
- Accurately complete required production documentation and travelers.
Quality
- Perform visual and functional inspections during and after assembly.
- Identify defects, missing components, damaged parts, or incorrect configurations before shipment.
- Communicate quality concerns to leadership immediately.
- Support first-piece inspections and corrective actions when required.
- Maintain high workmanship standards and attention to detail.
Packaging & Shipping Support
- Properly package finished goods to prevent shipping damage.
- Label products and packages accurately according to shipping requirements.
- Assist with loading, staging, and preparing orders for shipment.
- Ensure packaging materials and finished products meet customer expectations.
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Work cooperatively with supervisors, welders, material handlers, quality personnel, and other departments.
- Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to support changing production priorities.
- Participate in process improvement and housekeeping initiatives.
- Cross-train in multiple production areas as needed.
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Manufacturing or assembly experience preferred.
- Ability to read tape measures and basic production drawings.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive motion.
- Ability to work in varying manufacturing temperatures and conditions.
