The Manager, Audience Growth drives strategies to grow and monetize McClatchy’s audiences across digital products and platforms.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Audience, this role translates audience growth strategies into measurable initiatives and growth experiments across owned, external and platform-based channels.
Operating cross-functionally in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, the Manager, Audience Growth combines strategic problem-solving, experimentation and team leadership to expand reach, increase engagement and maximize revenue per user, while partnering closely with other Audience managers to ensure coordinated execution.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is between 85k and 110k annually. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography, and local wage and hours laws.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic direction for audience growth initiatives across brands, translating efforts into measurable outcomes for acquisition, engagement, retention and monetization.
- Identify, test and scale new audience segments, channels and partnerships to expand reach and diversify acquisition, with a focus on priority verticals including lifestyle content.
- Oversee integrated, multi-platform audience growth initiatives focused on expansion, engagement and retention, ensuring alignment with audience and revenue goals while collaborating closely with distribution and paid media partners.
- Analyze and report on audience data, performance trends and market opportunities to inform strategy, guide optimization and develop actionable insights.
- Collaborate with creative teams to develop and implement audience strategies, ensuring content is optimized for engagement and platform-specific best practices and distributed for maximum value.
- Act as a hands-on contributor to audience growth efforts, applying platform-specific best practices and identifying new opportunities for reach, engagement and revenue.
- Monitor SEO performance and identify optimization opportunities.
- Manage quality control across audience growth initiatives and support administration, documentation, reporting and workflows for scalable, efficient execution.
- Collaborate closely with other audience roles and cross-departmental teams to align strategies, avoid duplication and ensure cohesive execution
- Serve as a consulting resource to other divisions and departments on content marketing, distribution and audience engagement strategies..
- Provide day-to-day guidance, feedback and support for managers or other audience-focused roles, encouraging innovation and professional growth.
- Drive a culture of testing, experimentation, and rapid iteration by developing test plans, evaluating results, and scaling successful tactics across brands, verticals, and products.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years in digital marketing, audience engagement or related roles, with a proven track record of driving engagement, conversions and revenue.
- Ability to translate audience insights and data into actionable growth strategies, using analytics to inform decisions and optimize campaigns.
- Strong analytical mindset and a love for data-driven testing, experimentation and iterative improvement.
- Proven ability to guide and support team members, collaborate across departments and consult with other divisions to align strategies.
- Deep understanding of digital marketing channels, audience analytics, content management systems (CMS), email service providers, A/B testing tools and social platform management/analytics tools.
- Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and concisely.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university; preferably in journalism, marketing or the equivalent education, experience, skills and knowledge needed to perform the tasks and responsibilities of the position.
