Processor - Pathology

Collects, labels, logs, and processes blood and other specimens. Checks quality of samples and specimens. Assembles supplies and equipment. Monitors lab incubator/refrigerator temperatures. Prepares specimens for referral to outside laboratories.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Orders all appropriate tests in LIS system.
• Ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers have been submitted or collected for the appropriate test ordered and are labeled correctly.
• Ensures CAP, UMPA, and GLP (when appropriate ) guidelines are followed during processing procedures.
• Determines acceptability of specimens.
• Spins, separates, stores and distributes specimens to the appropriate area.
• Prepares specimens for reference labs according to laboratory protocol.
• Ensures specific guidelines are followed for various laboratory studies.
• Completes mandatory employee health, workers compensation, HR processes and other training and requirements in required time frame to insure compliance with all FPI rules and regulations.       

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
• One year la processing experience preferred

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range.
