Construction Advisory Practice

Our Construction Advisory Practice consists of engineering and construction professionals with practical industry experience, who have advised on an extensive range of projects across multiple industry sectors in domestic and international contexts.  Most of our professionals are either civil, mechanical, electrical or chemical engineers, quantity surveyors, or architects by training and background, many of whom have supplemented their technical disciplines with further commercial qualifications, including construction and contracts management, international arbitration and dispute resolution, finance and construction law.

Job Description

J.S. Held is actively seeking a Senior Consultant to be a part of our team in the Construction Advisory Practice who is looking to continue to grow a career in engineering and construction focusing on claims and dispute resolution, delay analysis, project advisory services, construction planning and scheduling.

This position is for a professional who has knowledge or experience with contract and/or change order management, critical path scheduling analysis, review of drawings and specifications, and other engineering and construction-related documents. Prior experience on active engineering or construction projects is highly preferred OR experience in claims and dispute resolution, delay analysis, project advisory services, construction planning and scheduling.

Job Responsibilities:

• The Candidate will primarily be involved in construction dispute resolution, claims assessment, delay/ disruption analysis and providing programming support on live projects.
• The Candidate will assist to the Delay Expert(s) and/or the lead assistant. This individual will provide forensic delay analysis and contribute to the expert report preparation.
• An individual is required who can show initiative, perform advanced data research, manage client relations and deliver to tight deadlines. This role will involve frequent client interaction and will require the successful candidate to prepare and make presentations to communicate results.
• It is preferred that the individual has previous experience in providing consultancy services on substantial and/or complex disputes in delay and time-related matters.  They should be able to demonstrate experience in writing reports to a high level and have strong industry experience in large construction and engineering projects.
• We anticipate that the successful candidate will have a good academic record and be able to demonstrate how they have distinguished themselves within their chosen field.  They will be expected to work collaboratively with the team and deliver commissions to the client’s satisfaction.
• Produce work products, draft memos, presentations, and reports
• Travel as needed to project sites and client offices

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in forensic delay or planning experience in the construction and engineering industry.
• A recognized undergraduate degree in construction management, engineering quantity surveying, or similar from a leading university.
• A post graduate qualification in construction law (or similar) is desirable but not essential.
• Chartered professional status, or equivalent desired.
• Minimum 5 years on-site construction experience with engineering or construction firms, or a construction claim/dispute firm.
• Excellent oral and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Professionalism and client facing ability, able to build trust.
• A strong technical underpinning in project planning.
• Relationship building and strong interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in construction programming software (i.e., Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project).
• A Flexible approach to their work.
• An understanding of the demands of project-based work, able to work under pressure and an ability to meet deadlines.
• A sense of personal responsibility for the quality of their work.
• Fluent in English. Command of a second language is desired but not essential.
