At Tandem PV, we are a team of people who are passionate about building a more sustainable world by bringing cost effective solar panels onto the market. We’re scaling metal-halide perovskite solar technology to make best-in-class mechanically stacked tandem modules. We have built efficient, durable cells, monolithic multi-cell submodules, and packaged modules with our scalable, low-cost process. Our next focus is expanding our team to work in our new pilot manufacturing facility.
Position Summary
The Quality Engineer will report to the Vice President of Quality and drive the development and continuous improvement of our materials and devices as a member of the Quality Team. This role combines hands-on work in the laboratory and on the factory floor with cross-functional collaboration (R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and external partners) to ensure that our R&D and production technologies develop and scale using sound quality principles.
The ideal candidate has an experience set that includes:
Quality system development within advanced technology firms including start-ups, medium and large size firms;
Knowledge of the application of DMIAC principles to emerging advanced technology moving into high volume manufacturing.
The synthesis and analysis of hybrid perovskite thin film photovoltaic-related materials and the integration of those materials into photovoltaic devices.
Key Responsibilities
Support total quality management (TQM) systems across materials and device development through defining and improving procedures, specifications, and ensuring change control.
Apply DMAIC (Define–Measure–Analyze–Improve–Control) principles to emerging perovskite technologies, from lab scale to pilot and manufacturing environments.
Advance the development and tracking of key quality metrics (e.g., yield, reliability indicators, defect rates) and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Help Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers, vendors and other external partners including due diligence, joint development planning, and quality-related risk assessments
Support the negotiation of technical statements of work, quality specifications, and acceptance criteria for materials and equipment in partnership with internal customers
Collaborate with partner organizations to qualify materials and equipment, resolve quality issues, and improve performance and reliability of them
Analyze process, characterization, and reliability data to drive root-cause investigations and implement robust corrective actions both internally and externally.
Establish control strategies and monitoring plans to drive continuous improvement cycles
Work closely with R&D, process engineering, reliability, and operations teams to embed quality principles into technology roadmaps and development milestones.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Engineering or Science.
Minimum of 2 years of practical, interdisciplinary experience which may include manufacturing and/or R&D (Solar, Semiconductor, Batteries, Optics, MEMS, or related technologies)
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document methods and present technical results clearly.
Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Applying DMAIC or similar structured process-improvement methodologies to advanced or emerging technologies using modern statistical methods.
Synthesis, processing, and characterization of hybrid perovskite thin-film photovoltaic materials, the integration of those materials into photovoltaic devices and the characterization and testing of such devices
Selecting, negotiating agreements with, and/or developing technology in collaboration with external firms (e.g., start-ups, medium, and large companies)
Tandem PV uses perovskite & silicon mechanically-stacked tandems to upgrade silicon solar panels, sharply decreasing installed systems costs, significantly increasing module manufacturing profit margins, and opening up vast new solar markets in the US and worldwide. TPV was co-founded by Stanford PhDs Colin Bailie and Chris Eberspacher; is advised by industry experts from Corning, First Solar, Vivint Solar, and Kateeva; has raised more than $50M in Series A funding. We were recently recognized as the Best Pre-Commercial Venture of 2025 by the Industry Growth Forum (IGF)
