Role Summary
The Director, Community Affairs is responsible for building and leading the company’s philanthropic and community engagement strategy. This role oversees the corporate charitable foundation, enterprise volunteerism, Employee Resource Group community alignment, and GEICO’s associate assistance fund.
This is a build-and-transform role. In the absence of a formal corporate affairs function, this leader will establish the foundation, operating model, and cross-functional alignment required to create a scalable, high-impact corporate citizenship capability.
Key Responsibilities
Build & Transformation Leadership
Stand up a cohesive community engagement function, including strategy, governance, operating model, and success metrics
Assess current-state programs (foundation, volunteerism, ERGs, assistance fund) and redesign for scale, consistency, and impact
Establish clear priorities, funding frameworks, and decision rights across all community engagement activities
Implement measurement systems to track impact, participation, reputational value, and ROI
Develop executive‑ and board‑ready reporting on community impact, participation, and ROI
Synthesize insights for senior leadership to inform strategy and investment decisions
Community Engagement Strategy
Define and execute a focused, enterprise-aligned strategy for philanthropy and community engagement
Identify and prioritize key areas of impact aligned to business and brand
Translate strategy into actionable programs and measurable outcomes
Corporate Charitable Foundation
Lead all aspects of the corporate foundation, including governance, grantmaking, compliance, and reporting
Mature foundation operations as needed to support long-term strategy
Build a disciplined, transparent approach to nonprofit partnerships and funding decisions
Cross-Functional Corporate Affairs Leadership
Convene and lead a cross-functional coalition working to advance GEICO’s community engagement work that includes Government Relations, Marketing, Communications, Legal, Site Leadership and HR
Align external engagement, community investments, and brand storytelling
Create mechanisms (cadence, forums, decision frameworks) to sustain alignment over time
Identify and mitigate reputational risks related to community engagement
Volunteerism & Community Engagement
Build a scalable volunteerism strategy aligned to philanthropic priorities
Increase participation through structured, well-supported programs
Develop signature initiatives that enhance both impact and brand
Employee Resource Groups - Community Alignment
Create structure and guardrails for Employee Resource Group involvement in community engagement
Align Employee Resource Group activities with enterprise priorities while preserving authenticity and grassroots energy
Associate Assistance Fund
Strengthen governance, processes, and execution for the employee assistance fund
Ensure equitable, compliant, and timely distribution
Build trust and awareness across the workforce
Team Leadership
Lead and develop a team
Build capabilities in program design, nonprofit partnerships, and impact measurement
Instill a high-accountability, execution-focused culture
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in corporate philanthropy, CSR, corporate affairs, or related fields, with leadership across foundation operations, volunteerism, and ERG engagement
Deep corporate foundation expertise, including grantmaking, governance, compliance, portfolio management, and impact measurement aligned to enterprise priorities
Proven ability to design and scale volunteerism programs and ERG community alignment, driving participation while connecting efforts to business and philanthropic goals
Strong cross-functional leadership, with a track record of aligning HR, Communications, Marketing, Government Relations, Legal, and business leaders around shared community engagement objectives
Demonstrated success building integrated strategies across philanthropy, volunteerism, and employee engagement that drive measurable impact and consistency at scale
Deep understanding of the nonprofit ecosystem and experience building high-impact partnerships that inform strategy and investment decisions
Experience advising foundation boards and senior executives, including governance, compliance, and executive-level stakeholder engagement
Proven ability to build operating models, governance structures, and decision frameworks across complex, distributed programs
Strong analytical and storytelling skills, including executive- and board-ready reporting on impact, participation, and ROI
Track record of influencing without authority and sustaining alignment across stakeholders
Strong executive presence and external credibility, with the ability to represent the organization across sectors

Annual Salary
$140,425.00 - $229,600.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
