Job Responsibilities
Completes necessary communication for patient processing, including answering multi-line telephone system, scheduling patient appointments, recording and relaying information to staff, patients, and other customers
Completes registration of all new patients, including identifying and completing demographic and insurance verification
Ensures authorization for insurance is obtained prior to patient’s initial visit, and continued authorization for additional treatment sessions
Schedules patient evaluation appointments and subsequent treatment sessions
Manages outpatient scheduling for clinicians daily
Prepares patient medical record prior to initial visit, and assists with ongoing medical record management
Performs daily billing
Compiles departmental statistics daily and reports to Administrative Secretary on a monthly basis
Tracks and assists with documentation and claims processing for Medicare and Workers’ Compensation claims to ensure reimbursement of rehab services
Assists HIM in processing medical record requests and ensures authorization to release patient information
Collects and processes co-payments from patients when applicable
Types monthly departmental staff meeting minutes and distributes to appropriate staff
Has knowledge of and participates in departmental and organizational initiatives for performance improvement (PI).
Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and departmental infection control policies
Position Qualifications
Minimum Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of general office procedures and practice
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with standard office and healthcare software systems
Preferred:
Prior experience as a medical receptionist, including familiarity with insurance processes related to outpatient medical services
Foundational knowledge of principles and procedures in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and cardiac rehabilitation
