Garrett Motion is seeking a motivated college intern to support our Burst and Containment (B&C) project by leveraging AI and Machine Learning techniques. The role involves organizing, cleaning, and structuring historical B&C data (both test and FEA) to enable predictive modeling and intelligent systems. The intern will help build a robust data pipeline and AI-driven tools that improve estimation of design requirements, wheel weakening values, and facilitate continuous improvement through an autonomous AI agent for B&C-related queries.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Preparation & Management:
Collect, organize, and clean historical B&C test and FEA data.
Design and implement structured data architecture for ML/AI applications.
Ensure data integrity, consistency, and scalability.
Machine Learning & AI Development:
Assist in developing ML models to predict CB wall thickness and wheel weakening values for B&C test.
Support integration of AI algorithms for QBS.
Collaborate on creating an AI agent for B&C-related queries using existing data.
System Development & Continuous Improvement:
Build a robust system for QBS leveraging AI insights.
Identify gaps and propose enhancements in data and model performance.
Document processes and maintain version control for datasets and models.
Collaboration & Reporting:
Work closely with simulation engineers and project leads.
Prepare progress reports and present findings to the team.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills:
Python programming, data cleaning, ML libraries (Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).
Basic understanding of FEA concepts and mechanical systems.
Optional: Exposure to LS-Dyna, ANSYS, FEA tools, and structural mechanics.
Soft Skills:
Analytical thinking and problem-solving.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Learning Outcomes
Hands-on experience in applying AI/ML to mechanical engineering problems.
Understanding of data engineering workflows for simulation and test data.
Exposure to predictive modeling for structural analysis and FEA (ANSYS/LS-Dyna).
Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI applications in engineering and FEA Simulation.
