The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Processing Technical Services Department as Metallurgist - Recovery Plant Metallurgy.
About the role
The Metallurgist - Recovery Plant Metallurgy is responsible for providing metallurgical support and technical expertise to ancillary process areas within the processing plant. The role focuses on monitoring plant performance, optimising metallurgical processes, supporting operational efficiency, and ensuring production targets, recovery, safety, and quality standards are achieved. A candidate with strong experience of over 3 years in Leach/Refinery and Cyanide Detoxification processes is preferred.
This position works collaboratively with operations, maintenance, laboratory, and technical services teams to drive continuous improvement and maintain stable plant performance.
In this role, you will
Monitor and assess metallurgical performance across the Leach, Refinery, Cyanide Detoxification and plant systems.
Conduct daily analysis of plant data, recoveries, throughput, and process efficiency.
Participating in Gold Room Activities
Complete Metallurgical Routine Activities (Daily, Weekly and Monthly)
Prepare metallurgical reports, production summaries, and performance analyses.
Maintain accurate metallurgical accounting and reporting systems.
Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvement initiatives to optimize process efficiencies.
Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for plant performance issues.
Recommend operational adjustments to improve recovery, product quality, and plant stability.
Optimize Cyanide Detox Plant performance and maintain EMS and regulatory compliances as required
Assist with plant trials, test work, and process development activities.
Provide technical guidance and support for operations personnel.
Work closely with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and plant up time.
Participate in shutdown planning and commissioning activities.
Support compliance with operating procedures and metallurgical standards

Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience in plant metallurgy or mineral processing operations.
Knowledge of metallurgical accounting and plant performance monitoring.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and process data analysis tools.
Mobilization Requirement
This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
