Summary
The Senior QA Manager is responsible for leading the end‑to‑end quality strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of testing practices across multiple products and agile delivery teams. This role is responsible for automation, quality governance, risk management, and engineering completion, ensuring high‑quality, secure, and stable releases that meet customer expectations.
This position sets quality standards, develops high‑performing QA teams, and drives an automation‑first culture. This position collaborates closely with Product, Engineering, DevOps, and cross‑functional partners to ensure strong quality outcomes throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Strategy
- Define and own the overall QA strategy across assigned products, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs.
- Drive an automation‑first approach and establish guidelines for build test, automation frameworks, tooling, and CI/CD integration.
- Be responsible for functional, integration, system, regression, and non‑functional testing activities with clear entry/exit criteria.
- Strengthen quality governance by implementing metrics, dashboards, and quality benchmarks that provide data‑driven insights into product health.
Automation & Technical Perfection
- Be responsible for the development, improvement, and maintenance of scalable UI and API automation suites (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Postman, REST clients).
- Ensure automation coverage for critical workflows, optimize stability, and reduce execution time across pipelines.
- Guide teams in writing maintainable test code, improving test data strategies, and identifying root causes through structured problem-solving.
Risk Management & Quality Assurance
- Identify and assess quality risks early in the delivery lifecycle; ensure mitigation plans are in place.
- Establish processes to prevent repeat issues and strengthen test coverage in high‑risk areas.
- Provide reliable go/no‑go recommendations for releases through evidence‑based reporting and consistent quality standards.
Multi-functional Teamwork
- Partner with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Architects, and DevOps to clarify requirements, prioritise defects, and resolve issues within SLAs.
- Support release readiness activities, production validation, and post-release monitoring.
- Facilitate defect triage, ensure timely closure of issues, and maintain strong alignment across teams.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and coach Quality Engineers, promoting continuous learning, technical perfection, and shared ownership.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performing team environment.
- Drive knowledge-sharing, uplift testing skills, and support career development for QA team members.
Process Improvement
- Continuously refine QA processes, tooling, and workflows for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure test documentation, signoff, strategies, and results are clear, complete, and aligned with standards.
- Promote experimentation, adaptability, innovation and improvement culture within the QA organization.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years in software quality engineering, with at least 3+ years in a QA leadership or management role.
- Strong hands‑on expertise in automation testing using JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent.
- Deep knowledge of testing methodologies: planning, strategy, build, implementation, reporting, and measurement.
- Experience working in Agile environments with strong quality ownership and risk assessment skills.
- Strong familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools (GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, etc.).
- Proven track record to lead QA for multi-tier, cloud-based (AWS/Azure) and enterprise-scale systems.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and teamwork skills.
- Strong analytical skills, structured thinking, and attention to detail.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Preferred / Bonus Skills
- Experience with performance engineering and non-functional testing.
- Familiarity with financial systems, market data, or regulated environments.
- Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
- Knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe).
- Exposure to SDLC governance and enterprise testing standards.
