We’re seeking a Unit Coordinator to join our Med/Surg team on a per-diem basis at BIDMC!
Be the hub of communication and coordination in a fast-paced hospital unit. In this role, you will support seamless operations while delivering outstanding service to patients, families, and clinical teams.
Job Description:
What You’ll Do
Patient Flow & Coordination
- Support smooth day-to-day unit operations
- Coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers with nursing and admitting teams
- Help ensure providers have the supplies and information they need
- Communicate details for tests and procedures
- Assist with registration processes as needed
Patient & Visitor Experience
- Respond promptly to call lights following BIDMC standards
- Welcome and guide patients, families, and visitors
- Provide helpful, non-clinical information
- Deliver outstanding service in every interaction
Systems & Operations
- Use key systems such as:
- Provider order entry
- Bed tracking
- Nurse call systems
- Ensure accurate data entry and timely responses
- Act as a resource for basic system troubleshooting
Equipment & Unit Support
- Troubleshoot printer, copier, and fax issues
- Help maintain equipment and ensure proper usage and charging
- Coordinate special equipment needs (e.g., specialty beds)
- Maintain logs and support compliance-related activities (JCAHO)
Patient Belongings Program
- Manage patient valuables securely
- Track and investigate lost items
- Maintain logs and escalate unresolved issues
What You Bring
Required
- High School diploma or GED
- 0–1 year of related experience
- Customer service experience
- Basic computer skills with web-based applications
Preferred
- Associate’s degree
- Administrative experience in a healthcare setting

Pay Range:
$20.50 - $27.59
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
