Design Release Engineer - BIW/Body
Responsibilities
- Design and Development of BIW Shell Stamping parts (Underbody/Upperbody/Closures/Hood)
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using tools such as CATIA V5, NX CAD.
- Ensure compliance with vehicle packaging, styling, ergonomics, manufacturing, and serviceability requirements.
- Perform feasibility studies and design validation during concept and development stages.
- Support design maturation from concept till TKO / design freeze milestone.
- Release CAD data, drawings, BOMs, and engineering documents through PLM systems such as Teamcenter or ENOVIA.
- Maintain part maturity and engineering release status throughout the product lifecycle.
- Coordinate design revisions and ensure timely incorporation of changes.
- Work closely with Styling, CAE, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Validation, and Program teams.
- Support DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack-up, and GD&T activities.Support DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack-up, and GD&T activities.
- Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and gateway reviews.
- Coordinate with suppliers for component development, manufacturability, and tooling feasibility.
- Support issue resolution during prototype builds and production trials.
- Support prototype vehicle builds, pilot builds, and production launch activities.
- Track engineering concerns during build events and ensure closure within timelines.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical presentations, and release documentation.
Qualifications
B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Automotive/Mechanical/Production Engg.
Essential skills
- Strong knowledge of automotive product development lifecycle.
- Expertise in CAD modeling and drawing release process.
- Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFMEA, DVP&R, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with PLM systems and change management workflow.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder management capability.
