JOB DESCRIPTION
General Summary
Ensures constant observation of the aircraft movement areas; accurate recording of information; alerting the AFRS operational team and notifying relevant supporting agencies and key personnel of accidents/incidents occurring within the airport boundary.
Essential Position Functions
- Constantly monitors the runway and other aircraft movement areas (if applicable) with the objective of identifying potential irregularities that can escalate into a situation requiring fire fighting or rescue efforts;
- Monitors the working condition of facilities found at the AFRS Tower; reporting without delay any malfunction to ensure immediate repairs/replacement by relevant authorities;
- Monitors aircraft movement during landing and takeoff at the runway and aircraft taxiing at the maneuvering area;
- Works in collaboration with the Fire Control Room Duty Personnel via system linkage to monitor the fire safety of the airport premises and other associated areas;
- Activates the crash alarm to alert the AFRS operation; receives information and notifies supporting agencies of any accidents/incidents occurring at the airport;
- Maintains a listening watch on inter-unit communication at the airport; and also communication between ATCO/Aircraft; if the facility is provided;
- Confirms and informs ATCO on the status of the airport level of protection category for rescue and fire fighting;
- Log down AFRS movement and activities/accidents/incidents requiring AFRS intervention in the AFRS tower journal
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining aerodrome compliance and SMS, as well as safety assurance and improvements.
KEY CHALLENGES
- Being constantly alert for any eventualities during his watch. This can be achieved by being highly disciplined and diligent;
- To ensure that all information logged in the AFRS Tower journal are accurate. This can be done by counter checking all received information
SKILLS
- Working knowledge and experience in Fire prevention and building certification, ISO 9001:2000, OSHA 94 and Civil Act 1969, ICAO, UBBL, Fire Act 341
- Working knowledge and experience in Fire Management and training
- Knowledge in ICAO-Annex 14, Airport Service Manual, ICAO Training Manual, NFPA
- Knowledge in AFRS operations, staffing, fire vehicles, equipments and others
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
- Have working experience as internal/external trainers in AFRS studies will be an added advantage
- Customer service oriented with pleasant personality
- Good in both written and spoken Bahasa Malaysia and English.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in Applied Science, Engineering, Sports Science or related discipline
- Preferably from a local institution recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
- Minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- AGE
- NOT LESS than 18 years old and NOT EXCEEDING 30 years old as of 31 December 2026 OR
- NOT EXCEEDING 35 years old as of 31 December 2026 for former members of ATM and JBPM
- PHYSICAL
- Minumum Height : 1.60 meters (without shoes)
- Body Mass Index (BMI) : 19 - 28
- HEALTH STATUS
- Medically fit with NO physical disabilities (including history of serious injuries such as bone fractures).
- MUST NOT be diagnosed with heart disease, chronic illnesses, or hereditary conditions.
- MUST have normal eyesight without glasses or contact lenses and MUST NOT be colour blind or have squint eyes.
- CRIMINAL RECORD
- NO criminal record and history of drug abuse.
- All information will be verified with PDRM, courts, and AADK.
