Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 3) / Sr. Principal Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer (level 4) in support of the Sentinel program. This opening is in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel Program.
Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

The selected Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer can get in on the ground floor of a system designed to provide another 50 years of security for this great nation. Nuclear Surety ensures that nuclear weapons are always protected against peacetime and wartime threats. A Nuclear Surety Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman on the Sentinel program will be provided with the opportunity to:
Performing decomposition of Department of Defense safety manuals into requirements and allocating them to design teams for implementation
Provide systems engineering expertise to the design, integration, and testing of a next generation ICBM weapon system
Participate in technical planning, system integration, verification, validation, cost, risk, supportability, and analysis for mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems
Evaluate the physical security design based on the Department of Defense Safety manuals
Interface directly with various compartments of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy to ensure safe design and operation of nuclear weapon systems
Use model based engineering tools on a major weapon system to pioneer a new way to evaluate and analyze modern design
Learn a niche discipline that spans all aspects of Nuclear Power and Munitions
This position may be hired at the Principal Systems Engineer or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer levels depending upon applicant qualifications.
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Systems Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 years of experience with Bachelor's degree, 3 years of experience with Master's degree, 0 years of experience with PhD
Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years
Must be able to be successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs
3 years of Minuteman III operational experience
3 years of experience with Minuteman III procedures and training
3 years of experience with and working knowledge of the Sentinel program
Experience working with Nuclear Surety Requirements and the Nuclear Certification process (e.g. AFI 63-125, AFMAN 91-118/91-119/31-108, DODM 5210.41, AFI 91-107)
Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of experience with Bachelor's degree, 6 years of experience with Master's degree, 4 years of experience with PhD
Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years
Must be able to be successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs
5 years of Minuteman III operational experience
5 years of experience with Minuteman III procedures and training
3 years of experience with and working knowledge of the Sentinel program
Experience working with Nuclear Surety Requirements and the Nuclear Certification process (e.g. AFI 63-125, AFMAN 91-118/91-119/31-108, DODM 5210.41, AFI 91-107)
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in systems, electrical, or software engineering discipline
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
1 year of experience with development or verification of electrical or software requirements
Experience supporting a major program event (e.g. SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, etc.) for a DoD program
7 years of Minuteman III operational experience
7 years of experience with Minuteman III procedures and training
5 years of experience with and working knowledge of the Sentinel program

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
