

The Department of Middle East Studies at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor invites applications for LEO Lecturer I in Sumerian and Akkadian Language and Literature for the Winter 2025 Term. This appointment is scheduled to begin on January 5, 2025.
Responsibilities include instruction at any assigned level of Sumerian and/or Akkadian language and literature classes and active involvement in teamwork and program affairs. The appointment level will be 33.33% or 66.67% depending on candidate availability and expertise. This is a renewable one-term appointment.
Applicants should have Superior level proficiency in Sumerian, Akkadian, and English. Experience with teaching ancient languages at the post-secondary level is required. A Minimum of a Master’s degree in foreign language teaching or equivalent field required.
The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant’s education and experience meets the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.
