GENERAL SUMMARY
The Point-of-Care/Accreditation Coordinator works under the supervision of the Administrative Director of Laboratory. The POC/Accreditation Coordinator's primary job junctions are to serve as a resource person to the staff, oversee point-of-care testing, and to maintain quality service in accordance with the laboratory policies, procedures, and accrediting agencies. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam required.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology required.
Licensure:
• MLT or MLS licensure by ASCP or AMT required
• BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers)
Experience:
• Approximately five years progressively more responsible related work experience necessary in order to gain comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of laboratory techniques and procedures, equipment, operation and regulatory and accrediting agency standards preferred.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Supervises and monitors point-of-care testing (POCT) for main campus and off-site locations.
2. Compiles and reviews monthly quality control and PI data reports. Performs linearity checks and correlation testing.
3. Coordinates and reviews proficiency testing for POCT.
4. Performs instrument preventative maintenance and troubleshoots instrument problems. Contacts outside vendors for technical support when required.
5. Maintains data management systems including UniPOC/WRX, Rapid Comm and NovaNet.
6. Performs result review for POCT tests. Orders and enters patient results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
7. Evaluates new POCT instrumentation. Performs validation testing for new methodologies.
8. Visits physician Foundation offices and off-site locations monthly to review QC. Orders supplies for POCT. Validates and QC new lots and shipments.
9. Performs training of staff and clinical instructors. Teaches POCT at new employee orientation.
10. Oversees POCT Competency testing for SOMC staff using POCT. Serves as a technical consultant.
11. Writes, reviews and updates procedure manuals to conform to CAP and TJC standards. Prepares POC sites for inspections. Performs TJC mock surveys.
12. Serves as a resource to physician office staff, nursing staff and nursing educators.
13. Serves as a member on TJC Leadership Team.
14. Provides data for QI indicators and monitors SOMC Dashboard indicators and IQCPs.
15. Coordinates the Laboratory proficiency testing program. Orders PT samples, ensures that testing is competed prior to deadlines, reviews PT results.
16. Coordinates inspections with the Laboratory's accrediting bodies and ensures the follow-up and monitoring of all inspection findings is completed.
17. Maintains CLIA licensure for the Laboratory and its off-site locations.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.
