About the Role
Clearpoint Surgical Toronto, a division of Clearpoint Health Network Inc., is currently recruiting a Registered Nurse – PreOp, PACU, POCU and Short Stay Team Leader to support and lead our peri-operative services team.
Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Team Leader is responsible for providing clinical leadership and oversight within the PACU while ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care across Phase I and Phase II recovery. This role combines hands-on clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including coordination of daily operations, mentorship of staff, and support for continuous quality improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, leadership capability, and the ability to effectively manage patient flow and team dynamics in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Minimum 3–5 years of recent PACU, acute or Critical care experience (leadership experience preferred)
- Current BCLS certification; ACLS required
- PACU Certification required or equivalent
- IV therapy initiation and maintenance skills required
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to support, guide, and mentor staff
- Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
- Proven ability to manage a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control best practices
- Commitment to patient-centred care principles and continuous professional development
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Team Support
- Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination of PreOp, PACU, POCU and Short Stay operations, ensuring appropriate staffing, patient flow, and workload distribution
- Act as a clinical resource and mentor to PreOp, PACU, POCU and Short Stay nursing staff, supporting skill development and best practices
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing team environment
- Support orientation and onboarding of new staff and ongoing competency development
Patient Care & Clinical Excellence
- Deliver direct patient care as required, including Phase I and Phase II recovery
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and interventions in accordance with ORNAC standards and scope of practice
- Ensure safe, effective, and timely care through clinical oversight and prioritization
- Promote patient advocacy, safety, and quality outcomes at all times
Operations & Quality Improvement
- Monitor and support adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and health & safety standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and risk management activities
- Identify opportunities to enhance patient care delivery and operational efficiency
- Support incident review processes and contribute to resolution and learning
Communication & Collaboration
- Liaise effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, interdisciplinary teams, and leadership
- Facilitate clear and timely communication with staff, patients, and families
- Address and support resolution of team concerns and conflicts in a professional manner

- Participates and leads committees and best practice initiatives
- Identifies potential patient and family concerns and provides appropriate intervention, including patient/family education as needed.
- Actively participates in resolving Risk Management File (RL6) submissions • Participates in evaluating and planning interventions to decrease the risk of future incidents or near misses.
- Assumes the role of Nurse Lead in all Emergency Codes, providing clinical expertise.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with clinical standards as well as unit‑based policies and procedures and clinical practice guidelines.
