About the Role
Yahoo Travel is seeking a Deputy Editor to help establish Yahoo as a trusted authority in travel planning and decision-making. You’ll lead the charge on assigning and editing high-impact stories that drive audience growth, engagement, and revenue.
At its core, this role is about serving a curious audience and making travel feel accessible to everyone. The Deputy Editor will help readers understand how to make the most of every trip through content that’s informative, engaging, and drives action. Through clear, useful, and inspiring journalism, you’ll help demystify the travel category and give readers the confidence to plan and book with ease.
This is a hands-on, editing-forward role for a subject-matter expert. You’ll be a key decision maker in the Yahoo Travel editorial calendar, managing a focused group of freelance contributors to support timely coverage and evergreen depth. In this role, you'll lead the day-to-day publishing operations, manage the editorial calendar, lead cross-functional projects, and mentor a network of contributors. You aren't just managing stories; you are optimizing how we serve our audience in a fast-evolving, digital-first environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the daily Yahoo Travel publishing calendar, with support from the Travel Content Director, ensuring a consistent and high-quality flow of news, seasonal content, and high utility "smart serviceable" content that aligns with established editorial goals.
Plan and execute a mix of news, trend-driven stories, reviews, explainers, and evergreen guides.
Identify and implement AI-driven efficiencies within the editorial workflow, such research synthesis, fact-checking, and operational tactics.
Exercise senior-level editorial judgment as the "human-in-the-loop" validator, ensuring all travel content maintains Yahoo’s standards for accuracy, tone, and authority.
Manage, edit, and mentor a diverse network of freelance contributors, setting high standards for quality and original content and reporting
Partner closely with SEO, audience development, video, social, and product teams to maximize distribution.
Contribute travel expertise to broader initiatives, seasonal packages, and tentpole moments.
Qualifications
5+ years of editorial experience in travel journalism, with a deep understanding of industry trends and audience behaviors.
Established relationships with high-quality travel contributors and industry subject-matter experts.
Proven ability to grow audience engagement and revenue in a performance-driven content environment.
Strong proficiency in SEO strategies, analytics tools and content management systems.
Exceptional news judgment and the ability to make fast, strategic decisions in a high-pressure environment.
A mindset focused on continuous learning and a commitment to exploring new AI tools to improve editorial scale.
Experience leveraging GenAI tools (e.g., Gemini, ChatGPT) to augment research, outlining, and content optimization workflows.
Proficiency in prompt engineering to extract precise, high-utility outputs from AI models for editorial use.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in travel commerce or affiliate revenue optimization.
Prior experience leading large-scale editorial projects or "tentpole" seasonal packages.

The compensation for this position ranges from $90,750.00 - $188,750.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
