Job DetailsJob Location: Jonesboro - GA - Jonesboro, GA 30236Position Type: Full TimeJob Shift: MorningA Behavioral Specialist in a crisis home provides immediate stabilization and therapeutic support to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric or emotional crises. In this role, you will implement individualized behavior intervention plans and utilize evidence-based de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety of both residents and staff. The specialist also monitors behavioral data and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and nurses to guide individuals toward a successful transition to residential care.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Crisis Intervention and De-escalation
Provide prompt response to behavioral emergencies using evidence-based techniques to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
On call for crisis intervention as the need arises
Implements interventions to individuals in crisis.
Behavioral Assessment
Conduct thorough intake evaluations and functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to identify the root causes of challenging behaviors and triggers.
Develops and implements behavioral supports plans (BSPs)
Conducts diagnostic, behavioral, functional and educational assessments.
Intervention Planning
Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) or support plans that outline specific goals and coping tools.
Implement assessment, care and treatment activities as defined in professional practice acts
Skill Building
Teach and model essential life skills, including self-regulation, distress tolerance, and healthy communication.
Provides hands-on behavioral training as needed
Data Collection and Monitoring
Maintain detailed records of behavioral data, progress reports, and incident logs to track the effectiveness of interventions and adjust plans as needed.
Ensures that needed documentation is maintained per DBHDD standards
Prepares and submits reports within designated time frames.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Participate in team meetings with nurses, social workers, and clinicians to coordinate care and plan for the individuals successful transfer to residential life.
Attends staff, professional and inter-agency meetings.
Psychoeducation and Training
Provide support and training to family members and other staff on effective behavior management strategies and diagnosis-specific education
Crisis home has "living room” model with comfortable seating, private bedrooms, and laundry facilities.
Home operates around the clock, often necessitating shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays. On-Call responsibilities by phone consultation or if needed on site after hours.
Must be capable of performing physical de-escalation and safety holds as part of crisis intervention training such as MANDT or CPI. This often requires the ability to quickly move from a sitting or kneeling position to standing without using hands.
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods, including climbing stairs
Regularly lifting or moving objects weighing between 15 and 50 pounds
This position requires travel within the Metro Atlanta Area
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Psychology or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and 2 years of experience in a clinical or mental health setting, specifically with crisis intervention or de-escalation
OR Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or Sociology and 4 years of professional job-related experience in behavioral health or crisis services.
Certification in specialized de-escalation programs such as CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention), MANDT, or Mindset
Current CPR and First Aid certifications
Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) designation or a Certified Behavioral Health Specialist (CBHS)
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or BCaBA
Current Driver’s License
