Garrett is seeking a Warranty Technician to support original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the Americas region. Based in Plymouth, Michigan, this role provides hands on technical expertise in turbocharger failure analysis, warranty adjudication, and field support at customer manufacturing and warranty facilities. The Warranty Technician serves as a key technical interface between Garrett and its customers, supporting root cause analysis, corrective action development, and ongoing monitoring of warranty performance and emerging quality concerns.
Responsibilities Include:
Field Service & Warranty Support
Perform turbocharger failure analysis on new and used products at customer sites and within the Garrett workshop.
Support turbocharger warranty adjudication activities at customer warranty centers.
Communicate technical findings clearly to internal Garrett teams and customer product assurance organizations.
Maintain structured databases of findings and contribute to permanent corrective actions.
Monitor customer warranty data to identify emerging issues and trends.
Maintain and report monthly warranty metrics, including R/1000 and warranty cost performance.
Occasionally support field rework or repair activities to help meet customer engine production schedules.
Test turbochargers in the field to confirm compliance with customer quality requirements.
Technical Specialist & Engineering Support
Provide direct on‑site technical support to Engineering teams, including instrumentation setup, measurements, and test methodology recommendations.
Manage on‑vehicle testing activities conducted from the Plymouth garage, from planning through execution and reporting.
Operate and maintain machine equipment in the Plymouth machine shop to support special test or fabrication requests.
Review and influence test procedures, data interpretation, and standard practices in collaboration with global test laboratory engineering teams.
Design, construct, and operate test instrumentation required to validate concepts or investigate product performance.
Diagnosing and enhancing systems and equipment used for product development and testing, supporting advances in global test laboratory efficiency and capability.
Operating Excellence (GEM)
Drive lean and operating excellence initiatives to sustain an efficient and effective work environment.
Reduce waste and inefficiencies through standardization and continuous improvement.
Develop and submit Kaizen proposals for site leadership.
Support and reinforce Garrett Operating System (MOS) principles with full team engagement.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Act as an HSE agent of change, ensuring compliance with corporate and local regulatory requirements.
Promote workplace safety through auditing, enforcement, and improvement initiatives.
Participate in the local HSE Management System, supporting site HSE policies and annual goals.
Proactively identify and propose improvements to health, safety, and environmental practices.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive quality, warranty, or related technical disciplines.
Strong hands on experience in failure analysis, engine diagnostics, testing technologies, and instrumentation.
Solid understanding of turbocharger systems and engine turbo interactions.
Ability to read engineering drawings and inspect turbocharger components.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, from operators to plant leadership and OEM customers.
Proven leadership mindset with the ability to positively influence others.
Continuous improvement mindset with operating excellence focus.
Six Sigma certification preferred.
Strong teamwork skills, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
