The Opportunity:
Edinburgh Cancer Centre is seeking a motivated Clinical Research Fellow with experience at Specialty Trainee level in Oncology or Palliative Medicine. This prestigious position is an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring clinical researcher to embark on an original research project leading to an MD or PhD linked to a European research programme in the implementation of digital patient-centred care using Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). You would be working within a team which includes oncology, supportive and palliative care in oncology, implementation science, data science and digital innovation. Your research will have a focus which is both relevant to our research project and to your future aspirations, both research and clinical.
This post is full-time, however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus or in-hospital working.
Your skills and attributes for success:
Specialty Training in Oncology, Palliative Care or a related specialty
Research Project: The successful candidate will engage in an innovative research project tailored towards digital health solutions in cancer care. The specific focus of the project will be mutually defined as above, post-interview, aligning with the strategic priorities of MyPath Horizon Europe programme [mypath-cancercare.eu] and the relevant disciplines involved, including the Edinburgh Cancer Informatics research group. Options for focus may include digital health, epidemiology, health technology assessment, qualitative research, health economics, quality improvement, real world data, and informatics.
Clinical Implementation: The role involves supporting a clinical implementation study evaluating the MyPath digital solution or similar PROMs-based intervention for the use case of metastatic breast cancer management, in collaboration with a pan-European team of health researchers, co-led from Oslo University Hospital and the University of Edinburgh. Additional use-cases around Systemic Anti-Cancer Medicines (SACT) and Radiotherapy may also be possible.
Clinical Exposure: The fellow will gain practical experience in the oncology and supportive care service once a week, supporting the implementation study as a member of the clinical care team.
