Description
To safely and efficiently operate and support the activities of a hazardous waste management facility, including a waste oil manufacturing plant, shredder processes, and the operation of a waste transfer station.
To ensure all site activities are compliant with Environmental Permit.
Oversee and manage the day-to-day operational aspects of the business, with the introduction of visual management, workplace organisation and 5S to help drive continuous Improvement.
Coordinate and ensure consistent priorities and performance across multiple operator disciplines.
Specific focus will include operational safety and efficiency, personnel development and performance, project management, asset performance and maintenance, change control process, supplier and contractor safety performance. Ensure all operations are documented within management systems including ISO9001, 14001 and 45001.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor all waste Inputs, via the use of a value mapping stream.
- Maintain the highest Health and Safety standards, helping to promote a positive safety culture.
- Investigate and promote the reporting of Near Misses helping create a safe working environment for all site users.
- Challenge all cost, delivery and quality targets.
- Drive efficient performance management across all operational activities.
- Working closely with the Transport team and external third parties, ensuring that all loads are accepted in a timely manner with a customer service focus.
- Responsibility for maintaining operational performance via the use and Introduction of KPI’s
- Responsible for performance review via the means of standard operation reviews.
- Complete daily dynamic meetings, reporting feedback via the review board.
- Responsible for planning, programming and coordination of site activities.
- Coordinate on site operational projects to ensure consistent priorities and approach for all operators.
- Responsibility for asset management and maintenance, including a register for safety critical equipment.
- Drive continuous Improvement across the plant via the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedule.
- Promote the company vision and values.
People Management
- Manage and implement strategic training programmes to maintain a productive, highly skilled and motivated workforce.
- Accountable for the performance management and development of employees within defined area of responsibility, including completion of the 1-1 Objective Performance Review Process. Developing Individual training plans to help support the needs of the business.
- Responsible for all aspects of resource management within defined area of responsibility, including planning, resourcing and recruitment.
- Manage all aspects of employee related budgets and headcount plans ensuring balance between cost efficiencies and work requirements.
Adherence to the Company’s Health and Safety Policy ensuring all employees, within areas of responsibility, are compliant.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Required
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum, experience with operational safety including completion of risk assessments and procedural documentation.
- WAMITAB COTC Hazardous Waste Treatment and / or Transfer.
- Proactive and safety focused approach.
- Hands on and methodical, organised with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good people manager, proven experience of leading operational teams.
- Positive and motivated with flexible and adaptable attitude.
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively and to plan and manage own agenda.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and positive working relationships within and outside of the department.
- Highly focused on delivering results and objectives with a strong personal commitment to supporting the business in achieving its goals in a changing environment.
- Logical in approach with the ability to analyse data and formulate action plans.
- Good conflict resolution skills based on a ‘Can do’ attitude.
- Must demonstrate high levels of integrity and adopt a professional approach in all interactions should be transparent, open and honest in all dealings.
- Experience in implementing lean production.
- Experience in implementing kaizen in production management.
- Experience of asset management / maintenance.
- Experience of managing / implementing change control processes.
- Strong PC and technical knowledge and skills with a good working knowledge of the Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
Desirable
- Experience working within waste industry most desirable, however, alternate with relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience of behavioural safety / culture change.
- Degree level qualified (or equivalent).
