Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: 
The Summer Day Camp Worker will provide leadership and interactive support in the daily activities of our summer day camp program ensuring that children are constantly and consistently supervised, supported and included in games and other activities. 
The incumbent will work within a team to ensure that children are safe and cared for in accordance with The Salvation Army mission, values, and standards. 

Accountabilities: 

General
•    Assist with the implementation of a weekly summer day camp program targeted at children ages 6-11.
•    Provide interactive, hands-on support for activities, games and crafts.
•    Provide constant and consistent supervision of children.
•    Assist with leadership training opportunities for youth volunteers.
Program
•    Plan and execute games, crafts and activities for campers.
•    Support meal and snack preparation, serving and clean up.
•    Provide constant supervision and care during community outings.
•    Provide daily set up and clean up.

Health and Safety
•    Maintain safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards.
•    Prepare, submit, and act on incident reports when required.
•    Provide calming intervention as required ensuring the safety of everyone.
•    Responsible to work in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
•    Assist in the orientation of new volunteers regarding health and safety procedures.
•    Responsible to report any serious health and safety infractions or problems in accordance with policies to the Community and Family Services Team Lead.
•    Ensure camp spaces are cleaned regularly according to acceptable health standards.
•    Report any safety hazards, maintenance problems, equipment, or supply needs to the
Community and Family Services Team Lead.
Administration and Finance
•    Maintain accurate records of camper information and attendance while maintaining
confidentiality.
•    Maintain accurate written records, logs and statistical information.

Perform other position-related duties as required.

Corps Officer(s), Community and Family Services Team Lead, volunteers, staff, congregation members

External:

Neighborhood Families and community partners

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY: 

This position reports directly to the Community and Family Services Team Lead

WORKING CONDITIONS

•    This is a temporary full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week.
•    Ability to repeatedly lift 20 to 30 pounds.
•    Working environment is typically indoors in generally agreeable conditions, some outdoor work will be required during community outings.
•    This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for extended periods of time.
•    Interacting with children and youth.

Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes a½ hour unpaid meal break.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: 
Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes a½ hour unpaid meal break.

• Completion of High School

• Current First-Aid/CPR

• Must provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

• The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre ( CPIC} or through a local police detachment

• Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

• Related working experience is an asset.

• Knowledge and experience working with youth with complex needs and behaviors is an asset.

•    Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position 

Please Note:

This is funded through Canada Summer Jobs and therefore applicants must meet the hiring criteria for this program.  

This is a temporary seasonal position.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $15.35 to $18.86 with a maximum of $22.64.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
