This role can be based in various offices, on a hybrid basis. This role reports to the Director of Network Systems.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of enterprise level LAN, WAN, firewall, and Wi-Fi systems across a large, multi-national, multi-site organization. The Network Engineer will collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure optimal network performance, security, and scalability, while also contributing to documentation, monitoring, and the ongoing migration of on-premises services to cloud and hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Implements and supports firewall/DMZ security infrastructure, including traffic flow troubleshooting, policy analysis and security postures
- Implements and supports enterprise LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi systems in a large, multi-site environment
- Implements and supports routing infrastructure using common routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, BGP-EVPN, VxLAN Encapsulation)
- Administers LAN/WAN/VLAN/802.1x, Wi-Fi, VoIP, 802.1X authentication, RADIUS, Tacacs+ IPsec Tunnels and VPN technologies
- Designs, implements, and supports hybrid cloud network connectivity to Microsoft Azure and/or AWS, including ExpressRoute, Azure Virtual WAN, AWS Direct Connect, and Transit Gateway architectures
- Manages and troubleshoots cloud-based network security groups (NSGs), virtual network peering, and cloud firewall policies
- Supports migration of on-premises network services to cloud and hybrid environments
- Collaborates with infrastructure and application teams to ensure optimal cloud network architecture, performance, and security
- Implements and supports network monitoring systems using technologies like SNMP, NetFlow, and syslog for monitoring and analysis
- Develops and maintains network automation scripts using Powershell and Ansible to streamline network operations and improve efficiency
Qualifications
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues
- Very strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking
- Strong knowledge of network security and firewall administration. Palo Alto / Panorama experience a plus
- Strong knowledge of routing and switching in a large enterprise environment. Arista and Cisco experience a plus
- Strong knowledge and experience administering a large, multi-site LAN/WAN network, including data centers interconnections (DCI)
- Strong Knowledge of dynamic LAN/WAN routing protocols
- In-depth knowledge of BGP, VXLAN and BGP-EVPN
- Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi networking technologies (Controller based deployments)
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP troubleshooting and network traffic analysis using packet capture tools like Wireshark
- Working knowledge of cloud networking concepts in Microsoft Azure (VNets, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, NSGs, Azure Virtual WAN) and/or AWS (VPCs, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, Security Groups)
- Familiarity with cloud-native network monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Azure Network Watcher, AWS CloudWatch, VPC Flow Logs)
- Understanding of Zero Trust Network Architecture (ZTNA) principles as applied to hybrid cloud environments
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates for provisioning cloud network resources
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Hands-on experience with network automation tools, particularly Ansible
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Exposure to IaC (Infrastructure as Code) is a plus
- Good ability to create documentation
- Occasional travel required
Education & Prior Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 7 + years of experience with routing and switching in a large enterprise environment
- 7 + years of experience administering a large, multi-site LAN/WAN network
- 7 + years of experience working with WAN dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
- 5 + years of experience administering WiFi networks, Aruba experience preferred
- 5 + years of experience administering firewalls, Palo Alto experience preferred
- 2+ years of experience with cloud networking in Azure and/or AWS environments, including hybrid connectivity solutions
- Relevant cloud certifications a plus (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, or equivalent)
