At Independent Software, as a Network Engineer Level 2, you will support mission-critical enterprise and tactical network environments across secure DoD and Intelligence Community infrastructures. You will play a key role in configuring, troubleshooting, sustaining, and optimizing complex network architectures supporting operational and national security missions.
This position requires strong hands-on experience with Cisco and Arista technologies, routing and switching, firewall administration, crypto equipment, WAN optimization, and secure communications environments. You will support highly available network infrastructures while ensuring compliance with STE/STN and SSP security requirements.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced operational environments, enjoys troubleshooting complex network issues, and is comfortable supporting both planned and emergent operational needs, including travel and on-call support when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco and Arista network infrastructure
Support enterprise routing and switching environments with a strong emphasis on BGP routing and sustainment
Troubleshoot complex network performance, connectivity, and infrastructure issues
Configure and support firewall technologies and network security appliances
Support crypto equipment and secure communications environments
Administer and support Riverbed WAN optimization technologies and Call Manager systems
Support LatteArt and related operational network management tools
Maintain compliance with STE/STN and SSP security requirements across network environments
Support network upgrades, patching, configuration management, and lifecycle activities
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and security teams to maintain secure and reliable network operations
Provide operational support during outages, maintenance windows, and mission-critical events
Participate in on-call rotations and travel support as required
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Significant experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco and Arista network environments
Strong experience with BGP routing, routing protocols, and network sustainment activities
Experience supporting firewalls, crypto devices, and secure network environments
Experience with Riverbed and Cisco Call Manager technologies
Familiarity with LatteArt and enterprise network management tools
Experience supporting STE/STN and SSP compliance requirements
Strong understanding of IP networking, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network and infrastructure issues
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within operational teams
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Education and Experience:
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security Systems Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of relevant professional experience providing Network Engineering support and training commensurate with network engineering curriculum; OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline and an additional two (2) years of relevant professional experience providing Network Engineering support for a total of eight (8) years; OR
In lieu of a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree, an additional six (6) years of experience providing Network Engineering support and a certification in an industry standard such as:
Arista Configuration Essentials
CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Juniper Certification Tracks (Automation & DevOps, Cloud, Data Center, Design, Enterprise Routing and Switching, Junos Security, or Service Provider Routing and Switching)
for a total of twelve (12) years of relevant experience
Certifications:
Information Assurance Technical (IAT) level II baseline certification is required
Clearance Requirement:
Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
