Closing date: May 31, 2026
Step into the world of institutional payments at one of Canada's largest investors. BCI's Payments & Banking team sits at the intersection of financial markets, technology, and operational risk — and we're looking for a motivated co-op/intern to join us for Fall and Winter (preferred) 2026/2027 (September to April), with a four-month Fall 2026 option also available. This is an active period for the team: we're onboarding new banking partners, modernizing our payment infrastructure, and building out controls for next-generation payment systems. If you want real exposure to how institutional money moves — not just theory — this is your opportunity.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
BCI manages a globally diversified portfolio of assets valued at $295 billion and is one of Canada’s largest institutional investors. We invest globally to support pension and other funds for more than 30 clients based in British Columbia. We are proud to have been chosen as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and BC’s Top Employers. These national and provincial competitions recognize employers who offer exceptional workplaces for their employees.
The Payments & Banking team is a small, specialized group within Investment Operations responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of institutional payments at BCI. Our work spans SSI management, payment execution, banking relationships, SWIFT messaging, and AML/fraud controls. As a co-op with us, you won't be on the sidelines — you'll engage directly with payment workflows, technology platforms, and real problem-solving that impacts how billions of dollars move on behalf of BCI's clients. You’ll also gain exposure to private market deal flows.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
Investment Operations (IO) is made up of four branches: Derivatives, Collateral & Engineering; Trade Management; Cash Operations; and Business Solutions. Together, we deliver end-to-end capabilities across trade settlements, derivatives, collateral management, foreign exchange, and cash services. The Payments & Banking team sits within IO but interacts with virtually every department at BCI — from portfolio managers to technology to client services — giving you unusually broad exposure for a co-op role.

Support end-to-end payment execution, including review and quality control of payment instructions across multiple platforms

Participate in application testing and contribute to procedure and controls documentation
Produce and refine monthly KPI reporting packages for team and management use
Contribute to ad-hoc projects across the team's active workstreams
REQUIRED SKILLS
Familiarity with financial markets and institutional investing concepts
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Comfort navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities in a fast-moving operational environment
Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
A learner’s mindset, with a keen interest in continuous professional development
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office, and the ability to work with large data
Knowledge of R-studio and/or VBA is an asset
SWIFT knowledge/experience is an asset
Banking experience is an asset
