Position Overview
The Facility Maintenance Specialist, Power Generation will be responsible for supporting technical aspects of electrical & power generation systems operation and maintenance. This includes ensuring that CMH uses industry’s best practices and comply with all regulatory requirements; providing training, tracking, oversight, and quality control for all who use or maintain lodge systems; supporting the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to all aspects of electrical safety and operation; and maintenance and functionality of associated infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Partner with the Facilities Management & Area Management teams for the achievement of facility-based goals.
- Work specifically with the Facilities Manager in the planning and execution of power generation & electrical system replacement, equipment installation, and maintenance.
- Provide expertise and lead frontline Facilities Maintenance on regular maintenance, new installations and non-routine maintenance of power generation equipment and related building electrical troubleshooting.
- Support the implementation of standard maintenance procedures across all CMH Areas.
- Ensure all Facility Maintenance Technicians adhere to the safety policies and procedures and comply with all electrical code requirements.
- Support and provide feedback/direction to CMH Area Management and Facility Maintenance Technicians on all core facility and building systems to ensure functionality.
- Provide on-site technical assistance to Facility Maintenance Technicians.
- Function as a technical mentor to Facility Maintenance Technicians by providing timely feedback.
- Assist with performance management process by sharing technical feedback with the Area Management team (by location, as required).
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of maintenance management software and enter data as required.
- Clearly communicate department goals and directives.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of the Capital Planning & Budget processes and provide recommendations on short- and long-term project needs.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of project management with respect to managing capital projects as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of industry regulations and ability to train Facility Maintenance Technician on related requirements.
- Assist with all facilities-based emergency response incidents and support emergency response as outlined in the CMH Rescue Plans.
- Provide response leadership in collaboration with Manager, Facilities should a power generation systems problem occur.
- Model and enforce the highest standard of Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Regulation compliance in all aspects of the role.
All employees will support the implementation of CMH health and safety and sustainability initiatives and participate in training and provide assistance as required during emergency response situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field.
- Red Seal Journeyman Tradesperson in one of the following trades: Heavy Duty Mechanic, Industrial Electrician, Millwright; specifically with stationary power generation experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience training others in the maintenance of a variety of electrical power generation system types.
- Valid certifications in WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Intermediate First Aid Certification.
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualities
- Excellent troubleshooting and improvisation skills.
- Strong risk management and judgment regarding recognition and reduction of potential hazards associated with fuel systems.
- A willingness to learn and develop skills with on-the-job training.
- General knowledge of building trades.
- General knowledge & experience with Microsoft Software as well as an ability to learn other software systems, including the maintenance management software.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn other relevant software platforms are important, as is the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating seasonal workloads and changing priorities. The role requires a trustworthy, goal-oriented, respectful, and self-directed individual who can navigate complex responsibilities. Additionally, the candidate must have the confidence to interact with all levels of the company, including those in remote locations within a hub-and-spoke model.
Working Conditions
- Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in varied conditions.
- Ability to work for extended periods of time driving, sitting/standing, bending/kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling on an occasional basis.
- Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment in isolated areas.
- Position has the potential for exposure to chemicals required for cleaning, degreasing, and painting, as well as fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products.
- Frequent exposure to noise generated by helicopters, snowmobiles, lift equipment, and power tools requiring relevant personal protective equipment to be worn.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
- This position is required, at times, to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.
- This position requires travel to remote areas in the British Columbia backcountry at various times throughout the year including travel on logging roads. Occasional travel is also required throughout the year for company meetings and training.
