Assist the Indirect Tax Lead in ensuring accurate and timely preparation and submission of all Customs & Excise returns (including DA forms, periodic accounts, and other SARS-required reports), VAT returns and different levy accounts.
Assist the Indirect Tax Lead in reconciling Excise & Customs duty, VAT and levies accounts and investigate discrepancies in transactional and product-level data.
Assist the Indirect Tax Lead in monitoring and interpreting Customs & Excise and VAT legislation, tariff codes, rebates, duty structures, and regulatory updates relevant to oil and petroleum products.
Assist the Indirect Tax Lead in advising business units on Customs & Excise and VAT implications for the movement, import, and export of fuel, lubricants, and other controlled substances.
Assist in managing relationships and audits with SARS Customs & Excise, VAT and other regulatory authorities, including responding to queries, managing documentation requests, and leading audit preparedness efforts.
Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes with respect to accruals and provisions for Customs & Excise, VAT and levies.
Partner with EVCO, Logistics, and Finance teams to ensure compliant warehousing, bonded storage, and product movement processes.
Maintain robust tax documentation, archiving, and compliance evidence in line with legal and internal audit standards.
Assist the Indirect Tax Lead in liaising with external advisors where required to resolve technical or interpretive issues.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives, automation projects, and ERP enhancements (SAP or similar) related to indirect tax.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field. Honours degree is advantageous.
Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in indirect accounting space (Customs & Excise and/or VAT legislation).
Experience in petroleum, oil & gas, or manufacturing sectors advantageous.
Previous experience interacting with SARS and handling tax audits is highly beneficial.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

Competency in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar advantageous.
