Description
Sentra is a leading cloud data security company that gives organizations complete visibility and control over their sensitive data across multi-cloud environments. Our platform automatically discovers, classifies, and secures data at scale - helping security teams find, understand, and protect their most critical assets wherever they live in the cloud.
We are backed by top-tier investors and operate at the intersection of cloud infrastructure and data security, serving enterprise customers across highly regulated industries.
The DevOps team at Sentra owns the cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes operations, CI/CD pipelines, secrets and identity management, observability stack, and the production reliability of everything our customers touch. We are a focused, infrastructure-and-operations team — not a broader platform-engineering org —and we partner closely with product engineering to keep Sentra running fast and safely.
We are looking for a DevOps Team Lead to take technical and people ownershipof this team. You will set the technical direction for our cloud infrastructure, lead and grow a team of DevOps engineers, and partner with engineering leadership to define how Sentra scales its infrastructure over the next 2–3 years.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of DevOps engineers by running 1:1s, setting goals, providing feedback, and supporting career development.
- Own the DevOps technical roadmap and drive multi-quarter initiatives across Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD, observability, security, and cost optimization.
- Drive architecture decisions for cloud infrastructure, including multi-region EKS, ArgoCD GitOps, Terraform modules, Karpenter autoscaling, Kafka/MSK operations, and Temporal workflows.
- Partner with engineering leadership, security, and product teams to translate business needs into scalable and reliable infrastructure solutions.
- Establish and maintain operational excellence standards, including SLOs, incident response, on-call processes, postmortems, runbooks, and reliability reviews.
- Lead cross-functional infrastructure initiatives such as GitOps migration, multi-tenant isolation hardening, and modernization of secrets and IAM management.
- Own and lead DevOps hiring processes, including interview design, candidate evaluation, calibration, and offer discussions with recruiting teams.
- Drive infrastructure cost ownership by managing budgets, prioritizing optimization efforts, and communicating trade-offs with engineering leadership.
- Stay hands-on by writing code, reviewing infrastructure-as-code PRs, prototyping complex solutions, and leading critical technical projects when needed.
- Act as a force multiplier across the engineering organization by improving production stability, reducing operational friction, and raising engineering standards.
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on DevOps / SRE experience in large-scale production environments.
- 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including people management, mentoring, and performance development.
- Proven track record of owning and executing infrastructure and operations roadmaps end-to-end.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes at scale, including multi-cluster and multi-region environments, autoscaling, and security best practices.
- Strong AWS experience with production ownership of EKS, IAM, networking, and managed data services.
- Hands-on experience implementing GitOps deployment models using tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Strong Infrastructure-as-Code expertise using Terraform across complex production environments.
- Experience defining and managing SLOs, on-call rotations, incident response processes, and operational best practices.
- Demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, and retaining high-performing engineers.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical trade-offs and infrastructure decisions to engineering leadership.
- Comfortable staying hands-on by writing code, reviewing PRs, solving complex technical challenges, and leading critical initiatives.
Nice to have:
- Experience scaling a DevOps or infrastructure team from approximately 3 to 8+ engineers.
- Proven leadership experience managing multi-region and multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure environments.
- Production experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures, including AWS MSK.
- Familiarity with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration engines running on Kubernetes.
- Background working in security-focused or compliance-heavy SaaS environments, including SOC2, ISO, or FedRAMP standards.
- Hands-on experience with modern Kubernetes ecosystem tools such as Karpenter, Cilium, or service meshes.
- Experience building and leading cloud cost optimization / FinOps programs at the organizational level.
- Previous experience working in fast-growing B2B SaaS startups, particularly at Series B–D stages.
- Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects or developer tooling initiatives.
