Position: Mechanical Technician - ELD and Camera Installation
Pay Rate: $27 per hour
Schedule: Mon - Fri 8AM - 5PM
The Mechanical Technician - ELD and Camera Installation is responsible for installing, servicing, and troubleshooting Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) and camera systems across our tractor fleet. They play a critical part in ensuring fleet compliance, safety, and operational reliability through high‑quality installations and maintenance. They perform on‑site installations, evaluate vehicle and equipment condition, and diagnose technical issues related to ELD, GPS, and video telematics systems, and document all work performed and follow manufacturer protocols and procedures. This position requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in varied environments.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate the status of mechanical equipment, trailers, and vehicles; perform or schedule needed repairs.
- Perform custom on‑site installations of ELD systems and forward‑facing, interior, and exterior camera equipment.
- Install GPS antennas, monitors, external system recording triggers, and related telematics hardware.
- Manage all on‑site installation, repair, and service tasks for ELD devices and camera systems.
- Troubleshoot technical and electrical issues and determine appropriate repair or resolution.
- Conduct system operation tests to ensure proper functionality following installation.
- Document service and installation activities by completing mobile forms, reports, logs, and records.
- Follow all manufacturer partner procedures, protocols, and installation standards.
- Communicate all manufacturer‑recommended maintenance and any additional repair needs for assigned vehicles.
- Maintain personal tools and equipment through proper use, preventive maintenance, and supply management.
- Stay current on job knowledge by participating in training, educational opportunities, and reviewing professional publications.
- Represent the company positively while working independently and interacting with internal stakeholders.
- Support operational and organizational objectives by completing related tasks as needed.
- All other duties as assigned to meet evolving business needs.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; technical or trade school coursework preferred.
- Certification/Licensure: Valid, state-issued driver’s license; industry or manufacturer certifications related to ELD, telematics, or vehicle electronics preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with intermediate knowledge of automotive electrical systems and vehicle wiring.
- Prior vehicle installation or upfitter experience preferred (e.g., emergency lighting, two‑way radios, GPS equipment, antennas, or similar electrical accessories).
- Experience with 12/24V systems, fleet vehicles, ELDs, video telematics, dash cams, MDVR, and platforms such as Samsara preferred.
- Proven ability to disassemble dashboards, access vehicle electrical systems, and install aftermarket accessories (audio, security, GPS tracking, remote start, etc.).
- Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions, with flexibility to adjust schedule as needed.
- Must possess a basic set of hand and power tools required to perform installations.
- Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality in handling and protecting sensitive information.
- Technical: Proficient with common office technologies, including Windows PCs, Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and web conferencing (Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.).
- Environment: Comfort commuting to/from and working in a 100% on‑site setting (listed in this posting).
