Position Summary:
The Assistant Director for Student Leadership is responsible for the development, execution, and assessment of student leadership development programming in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Student Center, focusing on engaging students aspiring to hold leadership roles as well as more established student leaders. The Assistant Director will manage budgets and direct marketing efforts for the programs they oversee. This role will develop and evaluate learning outcomes for each program, tracking student growth through both quantitative and qualitative lenses. They will also assist the Executive Director with gathering content for the Student Center’s annual report and aid in reporting related to the University’s strategic plan.

Workplace Requirements:
This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration (one virtual day per week during the academic year and two virtual days during the summer). Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range: $52,000 to $55,500 annually, contingent upon qualifications and experience
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
2+ years of experience in higher education or a similar field
In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information
Experience advising high-level student leaders in one-on-one and group settings
Ability to apply student development theories
Experience facilitating workshops or group sessions
Ability to manage events and programs
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines
Knowledge of how to develop assessment tools, analyze data, and draw conclusions
A commitment to creating and maintaining a welcoming environment where all can thrive
Preferences:
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or a related field
Experience working one-on-one with student leaders to enhance skills
Experience working in a university setting
Essential Functions:
Supports department and area mission, vision, and goals
With the Executive Director, co-develops, plans, and implements student leadership and developmental programming and outreach for student leaders and the campus community, directly facilitating content as needed
Assists supervisor in creating a multi-year plan for student leader development
Responsible for program logistics, including budgeting, marketing, and risk management related to area(s) of responsibility
Creates and maintains a student-led leadership retreat or series for emerging and aspiring leaders
Aids supervisor in the planning and execution of the Peak Retreat for residential college and campus-wide student government leaders
Oversees, documents, and assesses area functions and student learning outcomes on a regular basis
Provides assistance in synthesizing assessment data for the department as a whole, gathering content for the Student Center’s annual report, and aiding in reporting related to the University’s strategic plan
Engages students in developmental opportunities utilizing student engagement software, such as Encoura Engage’s Paths feature
Assists supervisor with the management of a campus-wide Speaker Series
Liaises with departments across campus to enhance student programming
Performs all other duties as defined
Additional Functions:
Supports supervisor with Residential College Presidential Cohort training and development
Collaborates with other team members on events such as Moody Fest and Senior Gala, as needed
Provides consultation and advising to support student leaders, as needed, in support of Student Activities staff
May assist with overarching budgeting, hiring, development, and assessment for departmental student assistants
May supervise student staff/interns as necessary
Occasionally, attendance at after-hours departmental events on or off campus will be required
