Texas Law seeks a Director of Advocacy. We are nationally recognized for our advocacy training and a winner of the American College of Trial Lawyers’ Emil Gumpert Award. You can learn more about our program on our website. The Director is responsible for the program, including both our curricular and extracurricular offerings. Other staff include an associate director and an administrative assistant.
The Director also administers our extracurricular advocacy competitions, both intramural and interscholastic. This includes recruiting and supervising outstanding volunteer coaches and judges. The Director is the faculty advisor for our student-led advocacy group, the Board of Advocates. Additionally, the Director plans and runs special programs such as Judges in Residence, Public Speaking Workshop, Fall Litigation Institute, and Spring Trial Academy.
The ideal candidate will be available to begin in the summer of 2022 or earlier. The candidate selected will be appointed to a nine-month position as a non-tenured lecturer with the established arrangements for non-tenured faculty in the law school, which are an initial one-year appointment followed by three-year rolling, presumptively renewable appointments, assuming satisfactory performance. The Director will be evaluated on program administration, teaching, and service. Though not required, the position presents some opportunity for research and writing as part of service. The new Director will join a close experiential faculty community within the larger law school faculty. The current highly acclaimed director is remaining on the faculty, leaving her available to advise the new director.
We seek applications from exceptional candidates who have substantial advocacy experience, preferably in both trials and appeals. We are looking for a candidate who can do more than merely teach and coach. We are looking for a candidate with strategic vision about preparing students to be advocates in the modern world.
