

The Disability Coordinator alongside the Director, has responsibility for coordinating work throughout the institute that address the ongoing development and improvement to the quality of student experience – including proactive and responsive intervention, retention advocacy, health and wellness, social life, and successful integration into the CalArts community.
Reporting directly to the Director, Care and Well-being the Coordinator will strategically and intentionally coordinate collaborative work regarding these important issues within the departments and programs of Student Experience and other Institute partners (such as Academic Advising, Campus Safety, Equity and Diversity, Financial Aid, Human Resources, International Students and Programs, Schools, and Provost’s Office).
The Disability Coordinator will work primarily within the Office of Student Disability Services, which provides academic and personal support and accommodations to undergraduate and graduate students with diagnosed learning disorders; psychiatric disorders; hearing, visual, and mobility-related impairments; medical conditions; and temporary disabilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Serve as a disability services coordinator for students with disabilities (mental health, attentional, learning, vision, hearing, physical and systemic) and ensure Institute compliance with Section 504/ADA;
• Participate in the CARE team, including the monitoring and providing/coordinating intervention with students with significant retention challenges. Assist students who experience issues adjusting to academic and social life and help them navigate the Institute system;
• Guide students in resolving educational, personal, and other campus impediments toward successful completion of their academic and artistic goals;
• Interact regularly with students and their families, faculty, and staff, as well as with other campus and off-campus partners, as needed or appropriate;
• Support, assist and advocate for students needing conflict resolution and mediation;
• Provide appropriate professional development to Institute colleagues regarding these areas;
• Provide training for students utilizing assistive technology, such as Kurzweil
• Participates in assessing the needs of the students and staff and provide collaborative and strategic leadership for the following student affairs programs that related directly to student success: Disability Services.
• Serve on related institute committees
• Be active locally, regionally, and nationally in organizations that support and inform these areas;
• Other duties as assigned.

• Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative approaches to program assessment
• An earned graduate degree (MA., M.S., M.Ed.) or terminal degree (in higher education/student affairs administration, counseling, social work, or other directly related discipline) with full-time related experience in student affairs, counseling, social work (including case management) or directly related fields in a higher education setting preferred.
• Working in a college or university setting or K-12 disability office with a broadly diverse population
• Specific knowledge or training in ADA/504 accommodations/advocacy, special education, or directly related
• Background or experience in the arts is preferred
