R&D Senior Engineer

We are currently recruiting for an R&D Senior Engineer. This role will provide technical project leadership and have responsibility for all deliverables within an assigned project. This includes leading the cross-functional project teams in alignment with the strategy approved by R&D and Commercial organisations. It will involve a lot of engagement with site functional departments to ensure smooth product transfer to manufacturing sites.
A typical day to day will include:
- Providing technical expertise to all aspects of the design transfer projects.
- Managing technical activities on site level for product transfers (process, technology, analytics, capacity, resources).
- Planning, developing, executing & managing the assigned projects to achieve strategic and operational objectives
- Introducing and validating new equipment and/or complex new process projects from design through completion and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Identifing technical and schedule risks related to project.
- Responsible for setting and applying related design transfer standards in alignment with site Technology Transfer Lead
- Ensuring that all activities are performed to current standards (current Good Manufacturing Practices cGMP, Health Safety Environment HSE, Regulatory etc.).
- Effective communication of project status and needs across all levels of the R&D and manufacturing organization stakeholders.
- Leading preparation and submission of documentation for product regulatory approval
- Ensuring all functions supporting the project team are adequately resourced.
- Generating accurate project budget forecasts and timely flagging of budget variations with rationale in collaboration with IOL R&D Finance and Project Manager.
What you should bring to Alcon:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Physics or related discipline with 5-8 years’ experience in an advanced technical role, which can include applied postgraduate studies
Preferred: Masters/ PhD degree in. Engineering/ Physics or related discipline
- Strong project management and communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
- Proven experience in process engineering, equipment, and automation specification, ideally within a regulated industry
- Experience in new product design transfer and supporting scale-up into manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, processes, and industrial engineering principles
- Understanding of GMP validation, change control, and validation frameworks (including equipment, process, and computer systems such as GAMP5)
- Familiarity with statistical data analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and problem-solving methodologies
- Experience in process analysis and optimisation, with a continuous improvement mindset
- Knowledge or interest in optical systems and design is advantageous
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
- Strong report writing skills and the ability to clearly communicate technical information
- Well-developed interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
