Renders direct and indirect patient care under direction of appropriate licensed personnel. Facilitates care to meet patient's daily living activity needs by providing clerical, physical, emotional support. Provides personal self care and activity programs.

- Obtains, documents, and maintains appropriate data and records so that patient care is provided in a safe manner according to regulations. (15%)
- Coordinates activities as part of the treatment process to provide for efficient care of the patient. May include transport of patients and appropriate communications with family and other caregivers. (10%)
- Observes assigned patients on an on-going basis, providing a safe environment and conducting rounds as required. May include taking vital signs and responding to and notifying appropriate caregiver in emergent situations. (15%)
- Assists with the appropriate admission, discharge, and/or throughput procedures. (5%)
- Understands patient care plan and/or patient teaching program to provide for routine care, such as oral suctioning, wound care, specimen collections, dressings, hygiene, or sterile processing (based on unit competencies). May perform Laboratory tests categorized as waived under CLIA, except those waived tests that require blood procurement. May not perform blood procurement without appropriate certification from the State of California. (50%)
- Responsible for insuring unit has appropriate inventory levels of supplies and that equipment is functioning and properly maintained. (5%)

- Understand and utilize basic medical terminology. Basic understanding of the concepts/disease processes most commonly seen on the unit. Knowledge and basic understanding of patient safety and ability to perform tasks in a manner safe for the employee and patient.
