The role of VP Business Solutions, MO onboarding is to provide an analysis, design and implementation capability across Investment Management for product launches and related changes, ensuring that M&G Investment’s operating models are robust, scalable and flexible. We also provide a transition planning and execution capability to enable the safe transition of assets to and from our clients or funds during the onboarding of new mandates or closure/merger of any of our current product range. This involves scoping and assessing change across the end-to-end investment value chain. Typically the team will work closely with colleagues from across the organisation such as Investment teams, Risk, Compliance, Technology, Operations as well as with our external supplier network.
This role will have responsibility for managing a team of multi-skilled Onboarding Specialists who undertake market facing onboarding activities relating to fund and products launches and new instruments. . The team also act as subject matter experts for markets and changes to operating model as well as support activities relating to monitoring of the middle office outsource provider. The role will also oversee key governance processes.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Lead a team of Onboarding Specialists to deliver the market facing activities relating to client and fund events including (but not limited to) fund launches, mandate closures onboarding, custody, changes, fund closures.
Act as an escalation point for onboarding issues and ensure resolution
Manage Team performance, development, and Service delivery
Attend supplier meetings to track open requests and dependencies
Support Supplier Oversight Team with input to service reviews, reconciliations, and risk actions
Produce MI to benchmark supplier performance and drive improvements
Contribute to new market and instrument due diligence
Implement audit and risk assurance actions with robust reporting
Identify and implement process enhancements to improve efficiency and client satisfaction
Maintain and update onboarding procedures and documentation
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, coach, and mentor onboarding professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Conduct appraisals and regular 1:1s to track development and performance.
Drive employee engagement through training, career progression, and goal alignment.
Client/Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as primary escalation contact for client onboarding inquiries.
Conduct stakeholder meetings to drive sign-offs across operational teams where required and with external suppliers.
Regulatory Compliance and Standards:
Stay informed on regulatory product level changes if any (e.g., FCA, AIFMD, EMIR, STFR) and ensure onboarding compliance.
Implement internal procedures to maintain regulatory standards.
Collaboration with Investment and Client Service Teams:
Align onboarding requirements with investment strategies and product objectives.
Partner with client service and sales teams to structure fund/client setups in IBOR.
Competence / Knowledge / Skills required
Education and experience Requirements:
Education: Professional Degree, Post Graduate or equivalent qualification.
10-12 years of experience, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership role overseeing client onboarding, fund launches, and operational transitions.
Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams, fostering collaboration and accountability across time zones.
Deep understanding of global fund structures including UCITS, AIFs, OEICs, and SICAVs, and their implications on onboarding and operational workflows.
Extensive experience managing complex onboarding and asset transition projects, ensuring seamless execution and optimal client outcomes preferred
Demonstrated success in driving operational improvements, implementing scalable solutions, and leading large-scale change initiatives.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders, clients, custodians, and third-party service providers.
End-to-end understanding of asset classes including equities (public/private), fixed income, derivatives (ETDs/OTCs), FX, and money markets.
Operational knowledge of platforms such as BRS Aladdin, and experience with outsourced service models and automation technologies.
Experience in applying Project management methodologies to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
Broad awareness of industry trends, with a working understanding of ESG principles and their practical application in fund onboarding.
Proven ability to mentor and develop high-performing teams, building future leaders and fostering a culture of excellence.
Willingness to travel internationally and work across diverse cultural environments to support global onboarding initiatives.
