The EVS Coordinator provides managerial support and supervision for shift activities as delegated by the manager. Responsibilities include training, organizing, and directing operations/daily productivity. Adjusts staffing and delegates tasks as necessary to meet highest standard of quality in cleaning requirements. Primary responsibilities relate to employee training, quality control, problem-solving and direct supervision while also performing duties in an assigned area. May participate in new staff interview and selection process, performance appraisal and discipline process. Maintains department policies and procedures and customer service standards while communicating with other department’s employees and visitors. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2-3 years of previous institutional cleaning experience preferred.
Dependent on location, Michigan driver's license and insurability may be required.
• Demonstrated team lead, training, and/or increasing supervisory responsibilities.
• Experience in utilizing computer systems (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Active Staffer, or other
scheduling programs)
• Must have basic floor care and associated equipment/machinery knowledge.
• Must have ability to travel to offsite locations as necessary.
• Must have the ability to multi-task and quickly change priorities, sometimes with no advance notice.
• Must have ability to interact with verbal and written requests from various levels, including management, co-workers, patients and family members.
• Required to carry and effectively communicate for entire shift using hand-held radio, pager, wireless phone, or similar device.
• Must be able to delegate and hand-out work assignments to EVS Associates.
• Must effectively communicate any observable concerns with Supervisor/Management.
Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time.
Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.
• Provides leadership and supervision for all shift activities within the department under the direction of the shift manager or manager on call
• Coordinates daily assignments and make necessary adjustments to staffing levels based upon the needs of the department (ie call-ins, no shows, demand) at the time including authorizing overtime or sending staff home. May require contacting employees via phone to arrange for last minute schedule changes/assignments.
• Develops, coordinates and/or faclititates departmental training for new and existing EVS staff. This includes record keeping and keeping policies and procedures up to date and current to ensure compliance per AORN, ASHES, The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.
• Participates in the interview and selection process, performance appraisal and discipline process.
• Anticipates and coordinates supplies and/or chemical inventory or communicates needs to the appropriate manager
• Perform regular rounds and audits of hospital (and off sites as assigned) to ensure cleanliness standards are being accomplished. While rounding, verify that EVS associates have the proper tools to complete their work and ensure they are remaining on task.
• Performs regular patient rounding for improved patient satisfaction and feedback for improvement.
• Serve as point-person for fielding cleaning requests from variety of sources. After assessing request, must dispatch appropriate resources to accommodate such needs.
• On a daily basis, manage the bed board as necessary and delegate resources to areas most needed. Ensure staff properly signed in to Epic and are using pagers for the duration of their shift.
• May coach and counsel employees as needed related to work assignments, responsibilities and performance.
• Demonstrates commitment to providing outstanding customer service in a manner that is reflective of our mission, values and customer service standards.
• Lead by example and provide helpful guidance to staff on technical aspect of duties. May perform on the job training and group coaching as necessary to address any deviations from cleanliness standards.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
