Network Engineer, Associate
This role contributes to the delivery of high‑quality network solutions that enable reliable, scalable connectivity for Ciena customers. The position supports post‑sales solution delivery activities while building foundational expertise in optical and IP networking within a collaborative engineering environment. The work directly influences customer success through accurate design translation, deployment readiness, and in‑service network upgrades.
How you will make an impact:
- Deliver post‑sales solution engineering services, including solution design, solution acceptance, remote deployment, and network reconfiguration or migration activities under senior engineer supervision.
- Interface with Systems Engineering, Service Project Management, Technical Support, Field Service Engineering, and Customer Service Advocate teams to coordinate deployment activities.
- Analyze system engineering network designs and translate them into solution designs for new builds, reconfigurations, and network upgrade projects.
- Gather and analyze customer network data to develop migration strategies supporting successful transitions to Ciena platforms.
- Review technical deployment packages with internal and external stakeholders to ensure deployment readiness and shared understanding.
- Act as a technical escalation point for deployment package issues, collaborating with engineering, customers, and internal teams to resolve design or product concerns.
- Provide off‑site escalation and maintenance window support during in‑service network upgrades, including nights and weekends.
The must haves:
- Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field of discipline.
- Experience: Desirable not more than 2 years of experience.
- Application of basic knowledge of Layer 0/1 optical and transmission technologies.
- Application of basic knowledge of Layer 2–3 networking and IP protocols.
- Utilization of scripting or DevOps skills such as Python, Java, or Ansible.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross‑functional groups to resolve issues and establish best practices.
- Customer service interaction capability in technical delivery environments.
- Written and verbal English communication capability.
- Utilization of Microsoft Office tools, including Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to review and analyze project information accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to translate conceptual designs into executable delivery processes.
- Willingness to be in the office 2/3 days per week
- Willingness to travel approximately 25%.
- Availability to work night or weekend maintenance windows approximately 25%.
Nice to haves:
- Certifications: Layer 2 or Layer 3 networking certifications.
- Exposure to Ciena or other vendor optical product portfolios.
- Participation in customer kick‑off calls as a technical project engineering representative.
- Collaboration with presales engineering teams to align network design with serviceability requirements.
- Interest in communications‑ or technology‑focused career development paths.
