Description
Be the Consummate Host by operating, inspecting, and maintaining engines, machinery, and equipment in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner to the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistently conducts routine inspections to monitor, control, and troubleshoot all engine machinery and equipment under his control.
- Operates machinery as directed by the Senior Engineer Officer On Watch (SEOOW) in a safe and consistent manner, always in compliance with all Company policies and procedures and in particular ETCC requirements.
- Properly conducts and coordinates all assigned maintenance activities and accurate recording of work history through the computerized maintenance management system as laid down in the Company policies and procedures.
- Immediately reports all machinery or equipment damage or malfunction to the appropriate manager and raises defects as laid down in the Company policies and procedures.
- Willingly participates in the briefings when handing over to the next set of watchkeeping engine officers, ensuring that relevant departmental information is passed on to all involved.
- Willingly assists the Staff Engineer Officer / Senior First Engineer in the cost management and cost control of the onboard Engine department to achieve all financial goals set by the Company.
- Ensures that all relevant departmental information is passed on to all reporting watch staff.
- Promptly communicates all suggestions and concerns to the SEOOW.
- Communicates effectively with the SEOOW as needed.
- Always performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, Fleet Regulations, and other internal, external, and governmental regulations as directed.
- Operates all Engine machinery in accordance with the Code of Safe Working Practices, promulgating a strong safety culture at all times.
- Always follows timekeeping rules and creates accurate ILO records.
- Always performs Emergency Response Organization duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Willingly cooperates with the SEOOW in guiding watchkeeping crew to ensure all Engine machinery and equipment is operated in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner within the requirements of the Flag State Administration, Classification Society, and Company policies and procedures.
- Willingly assists in conducting and facilitating onboard training for engine crew.
- Willingly assists in providing accurate and timely performance evaluations (and performance improvement plans when required) for engine crew.
- Willingly assists in all training and orientation for all new-to-vessel / first-contract engine officers and crew.
