The Senior HR Manager based in Houston, Texas, plays a crucial part in aligning HR initiatives with functional business needs at the Laporte Manufacturing site. This is an outstanding career opportunity for the experienced HR Manager who possesses a track record of success in management and leadership within the chemical, petrochemical or refining industry. The role combines a manufacturing HR management function with leading day-to-day client interaction for the key production areas of the site.
This position involves working closely with leadership to drive key HR functions such Talent Strategies, organizational support, company culture, key company strategies alongside employee relations, talent development and acquisition and succession planning.
This position involves working closely with Senior Leadership in the establishment and transformation of our company initiative.
A Day in the Life
- Provides HR leadership for the La Porte (LPO) site and Equistar Pipeline Operations (EPO) and participates on the LPO/EPO leadership team
- Provide leadership in achieving the HR Goals and Objectives
- Anticipate challenges and recommend innovative organizational solutions for complex problems
- Deliver change management consultation with clients for various organizational design needs such as business growth goals, restructurings, etc.
- Provides consultation and training on engagement & retention of employees
- Drives and manages performance mgmt. processes; leading performance calibration annually, coaching leaders on tough conversations, co-creating performance improvement plans and development plans, and ensuring leaders are following through with the annual process. Assist leaders and teams with defining and developing engagement planning.
- Consults with clients on internal movement decisions; transfers, promotions, job enhancements and ensures decisions are in line with talent and skill gaps, development plans and career pathing
- Mentors, coaches, and leads site HR team
- Ensures the establishment of sound management practices, aligned with HR policy procedure and practices, and consistent decision-making processes across the business.
- Leads a comprehensive talent management and leadership development strategy, including the identification of high potential talent and evaluation. This includes identifying leadership gaps and devising appropriate development plans and succession.
- Develops a strong recruiting and workforce planning strategy to stay ahead of attrition. Understand the associated KPls and remove barriers.
- Provides HR support for the LaPorte site and Pipeline business to assist in the achievement of business goals and objectives, providing partnership with internal client leadership at all levels.
- Partners with leaders in the development and implementation of organizational structure changes, including identifying impact and assisting in the communication as needed.
- Proactively manage all employee relations issues and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.
- In partnership with ER/LR, conducts investigations into complaints of violations of Code of Conduct and human resources policies, and provides written investigation reports to Legal and Compliance.
- Participates in HR teams and special projects as requested.
You Bring This Value
- Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of HR management/supervisory experience in the chemical, petrochemical or refining industry, and minimum 15 years of overall HR experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- Must have solid HR fundamentals and broad-based experience in HR, with experience working on diverse HR issues, including an understanding of EEO laws and conflict resolution.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes.
- Organizational transformation experience.
- Highly developed influencing and communication skills, combined with stature and experience to effectively represent the Company before a variety of audiences.
- Possess functional expertise in talent management, organization design, change management, employee relations, recruiting and staffing, training, and leadership/management development, including succession planning.
- Be familiar with HR best practices including change, motivation, and employee development. He/she will have change management experience within a highly result-oriented environment.
- Ensure operational excellence and have the analytical skills to effectively analyze data, draw appropriate conclusions, and provide useful and insightful recommendations.
- Solid and demonstrated skills in: consulting, mediating, negotiating, coaching, business acumen, influencing, and project management.
- Thorough and deep knowledge of the employee life cycle.
- Experience leading or contributing to medium-to-large-scale re-orgs, org alignment, workforce planning efforts.
- Experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives, processes, or projects.
- Experienced with working, consulting, and influencing high level leadership and management.
- Experience working across an industrial/manufacturing client base influencing across, upward and downward.

- Preferred Qualifications
- PHR or SPHR Certification preferred
- Experience in the chemical, petrochemical or oil and gas industry
- Prior SAP experience
- The ability and flexibility to support continuous operating manufacturing sites
- Exempt-level human resources experience in manufacturing or operations in a related industry
