The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are seeking a qualified academic geriatrician for a full-time clinical academic appointment as either a Clinician Teacher (CT) or Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI). The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The position will consist of approximately 65–75% clinical activities and 25–35% scholarly activities. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed upon date thereafter.
The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate must have demonstrated clinical excellence in geriatric medicine.
For the Clinician Teacher position, the successful candidate must demonstrate clinical excellence in geriatric medicine. They are expected to have experience across the full continuum of inpatient and outpatient specialized geriatric services, including geriatric trauma and geriatric burn services. Excellence will be assessed by the presence of scholarly contributions to teaching and education as evidenced by teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, teaching awards, pedagogical innovation and curriculum development. Advanced training in a clinical area of focus and/or graduate studies of relevance to geriatric care is a requirement. The position will support the educational needs in the diverse geriatric medicine clinical practice settings, in addition to participating fully in the educational programs of the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto. Participation in clinical research and quality improvement programs, as appropriate, would be an asset.
For Clinician in Quality and Innovation, excellence will be assessed by advanced training in quality improvement or equivalent, successful quality improvement initiatives, evidence of practice and/or equipment innovations, and invitations to significant conferences, and accolades. A history of developing collaborative partnerships related to quality and innovation with various healthcare teams, organizations and community agencies will also be an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs of the University of Toronto as appropriate.
Clinical responsibilities will include clinical care of patients on the inpatient consult service and outpatient follow-up for those patients if needed. In the outpatient setting, responsibilities include provision of comprehensive geriatric assessment and management of frail older adults with complex medical, psychosocial and functional issues. The successful candidate will collaborate with interprofessional team members in specialized geriatric services, primary care providers, community agencies and other subspecialists.
The successful candidate will report to the Division Head of Geriatric Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The Division of Geriatric Medicine comprises seven full-time academic geriatricians, plus part-time academic geriatricians and clinical associates. The outpatient geriatric services are delivered in the Peter Cipriano Centre for Seniors Health. Opened in October 2025, this 13,000 sq. ft. centre is designed both as a physical space that optimizes the experience of older patients, and as the home of Sunnybrook’s specialized geriatric services program, delivering evidence-based interdisciplinary care that is integrated across Sunnybrook. Services include a variety of clinics, geriatric day hospital, outreach service, subspeciality clinics and audiology. The primary location of practise is Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Canada. Proficiency in English is required.
Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $300,000 - 400,000 (fee for service/alternate funding plan estimate) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience, and we expect the candidate to be eligible for the Ontario Geriatric Medicine AFP. The successful candidate will be a member of the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association, through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. Relocation costs may be included. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
