Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is a key member of Assent's Finance team, responsible for a full range of complex analytical and transactional accounting functions. This role independently owns the complete Financial Accountant scope with additional responsibility for complex accounting areas, variance and revenue analysis, consolidated financial reporting support, and external reporting packages.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role suited to a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced SaaS environment. The Senior Accountant is responsible for coaching junior team members and contributing to process improvement and system implementations — including Assent's ongoing implementation of a new AR and Revenue management platform and AI initiatives.

The ideal candidate will bring curiosity, initiative, and a strong interest in using these tools to work more effectively while applying their accounting knowledge.
Key Requirements & Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Journal Entries
Prepare and post monthly journal entries including accruals, prepaids, amortizations, lease accounting entries (IFRS 16), and revenue recognition adjustments (IFRS 15), ensuring accurate and timely month-end close.
Own specific balance sheet areas including prepaids, fixed assets, and leases; complete related reconciliations and investigate discrepancies with clear supporting documentation.
Maintain and update the fixed asset subledger, ensuring all additions, disposals, and transfers are recorded accurately; support periodic reconciliations between the fixed asset register and the general ledger.
Revenue & Accounts Receivable
Review and approve sales orders to ensure accuracy and completeness as the basis for revenue recognition and invoicing; perform regular reviews of the sales order and invoicing backlog and liaise with Finance and other teams to resolve outstanding items.
Address customer billing inquiries and questions from Account Executives in a timely and professional manner; support the AR Specialist with day-to-day accounts receivable operations as needed.
Perform invoicing and monitor the unbilled accounts to identify and resolve any invoicing gaps or discrepancies on a timely basis.
Support revenue processes including review of key inputs and reconciliations, third-party revenue share reconciliations; prepare monthly revenue analysis identifying drivers of change and highlighting risks, opportunities, or unusual trends.
Financial Reporting & Variance Analysis
Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements and related working papers for review by the Assistant Controller and Controller, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the P&L and balance sheet.
Perform monthly and quarterly variance analysis; provide clear, concise explanations for key fluctuations and escalate potential missing items or misstatements as appropriate.
Prepare reporting packages for external stakeholders as required and support annual audited financial statements and statutory audits in multiple jurisdictions.
Audit & Tax Support
Lead or coordinate assigned areas of the annual audit process including preparing working papers, responding to auditor requests, and ensuring audit evidence is complete and well organized.
Provide tax support by assisting with gathering, analyzing, and interpreting financial information required for tax filings, audits, and other statutory requests.
Systems, Automation & Process Improvement
Actively contribute to Finance system implementations and tool upgrades, including participation in process design, documentation, and change management; support the maintenance and optimization of NetSuite.
Identify and champion opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness across the accounting cycle through automation and AI-assisted workflows; help develop and implement practical financial policies, procedures, and controls.
Follow guidance set out by corporate security policies and standards; ensure departmental security processes and procedures are followed where applicable.
AI-Assisted Workflows, Automation & Process Improvement
Actively identify repetitive or manual tasks across AR, invoicing, month-end close, and reporting that are strong candidates for automation or AI-assisted workflows, and champion their implementation with the team.
Configure, maintain, and continuously improve automation workflows using Workato and other tools in Assent’s Finance tech stack; monitor existing automations for issues and iterate based on team feedback.
Leverage AI tools including ChatGPT, Claude and Google Apps Script to build and refine Finance productivity solutions — such as automated reconciliation checks, data extraction, reporting templates, and workflow triggers.
Actively contribute to Finance system implementations and tool upgrades, including participation in process design, documentation, and change management; support the maintenance and optimization of NetSuite.
Help develop and implement practical financial policies, procedures, and controls; document automated workflows so the team can operate and iterate on them independently.
Follow guidance set out by corporate security policies and standards; ensure departmental security processes and procedures are followed where applicable.
Team Collaboration & Mentorship
Coach and train junior Finance team members; provide guidance on reconciliations, journal entries, and quality standards; perform limited review of others’ work to reinforce development.
Provide support to all members of the Finance team as required and contribute in many different ways to ensure priorities are met.
Your Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education & Designation
A University degree or College diploma in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Currently pursuing CPA designation or recently designated (CPA); candidates actively progressing through the CPA PEP program are strongly encouraged to apply.
Experience & Technical Skills
Minimum 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience; experience in a SaaS or technology company environment is a strong asset.
Solid grounding in double-entry bookkeeping, GAAP, and IFRS (particularly IFRS 15 and IFRS 16).
Knowledge of NetSuite would be considered a definite asset.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; comfort with technology, automation tools, and AI-assisted workflows is highly valued.
An equivalent combination of education and experience which results in demonstrated ability to apply skills will also be considered.
