Schedule
0700-1530 with call every 7th weekend & rotating holidays
On-Call Pay: $6/hr

Job Duties
Ensures that accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families, and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
Demonstrates competent assessment, planning, intervention, coordination and evaluation skills based on the individual patient plan of care.
Continually assesses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care based on a patient centered care model.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills and judgment necessary to implement a patient plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures.
Maintains accurate and real time documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, according to hospital policy and procedure related to documentation parameters.
Functions as a role model for current and new staff by creating a healthy work environment to facilitate the department's or unit's ability to meet identified goals and objectives.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitor and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned.
Demonstrate effective and age-appropriate communication as well as the ability to understand the needs of the patient including non-verbal communication, fears, anxieties and language/cultural barriers.
Responds within scope of practice to emergencies and life-threatening conditions.
Adheres to and promotes patient safety practices throughout the patient experience.
Communicates and collaborates effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
Provides ongoing education to patients and families.
Delegates to other staff registered nurse, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, patient care technicians, unit secretaries, and other staff positions specific to the department.
Remains current on Evidence-based practice as well as appropriate Protocols and Procedures.
Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Department Specific Duties
OR
Maintains proper sterile technique throughout the procedure by diligent observation, instruction and supervision in the use of sterile technique.
Assures that all areas of procedure documentation are complete and accurate.
Monitors supply usage in the OR to ensure accurate charges are submitted.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills in anticipating the needs of the OR.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a specialty team.
Performs Surgical Assistant duties as needed.

Sound background in basic nursing principles and procedures.

Professional Experience
Previous RN experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Department specific experience requirements are noted below:
Behavioral Health
Experience in mental health and/or chemical dependency is preferred.
PICC/Resource Team
Current proficiency with peripheral IV therapy required.
2+ years of patient care experience is required.
Current of previous PICC and Telemetry experience is preferred.
Diagnostic Radiology
3+ years of nursing experience is required.
Hematology/Oncology
Oncology or acute care experience preferred.
Hospice
2+ years' experience in oncology/medical/surgical or hospice nursing is preferred.
Inpatient Rehab
1 year inpatient rehab RN experience preferred.
MMC General Surgery
3+ years of nursing experience is required.
2+ years of oncology nursing experience is preferred.
OR
OR experience is preferred.
PACU
Previous critical care experience is preferred.
Education
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Requirements listed below are applicable to all departments.
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Iowa or compact state required.
Current certification in Basic Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.

Birthplace
The department requires Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
Cardiac Imaging
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support required or completed within 3 months of hire.
Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab
Advanced Cardiac Life Support will be required within six months of hire if not current.
Cardiac-Stroke Center
Advanced Cardiac Life Support will be required within six months of hire if not current.
Cardiovascular
Advanced Cardiac Life Support will be required within six months of hire if not current.
Care Connections Clinic
Valid driver's license and personal automobile insurance required.
Digestive Health Center
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support required or completed within 3 months of hire.
Emergency Department
Advanced Cardiac Life Support will be required within six months of hire if not current.
Within the first 18 months of employment, the department requires completion of Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Hematology/Oncology
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) Certification preferred.
Hiawatha Emergency Department
Completion of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) prior to end of orientation required.
Within the first 18 months of employment, the department requires completion of Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
Hiawatha OSC
CNOR, CAPA or CPAN certification preferred.
Hospice House & Hospice Community
Current valid driver's license, valid auto insurance, own transportation required.
Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse certification preferred.
Intensive Care Center
IP Rehab
The department requires completion of Quality Measures (QM) certification within one year of transfer or hire.
Medical Float Pool
The department requires completion of chemotherapy class within one year of employment.
The department requires Oncology Certified Nurse Certification within 3 years of employment.
Mercy Center for Memory Health
Within one year of employment or transfer, the department requires completion of FIMS certification.
Mercy Home Care
Current valid driver's license, valid auto insurance, own transportation required.
MMC General Surgery
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) Certification preferred.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The department requires Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within 4 months of hire/transfer.
OR
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support or obtain within 6 months of hire based on specialty team
PACU
Certification in ACLS and PALS, in accordance with American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire.
Pain Management
Certification in ACLS and PALS, in accordance with American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire.
Pediatric Unit
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 12 months of hire/transfer.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification required within 12 months of hire/transfer.
PICC/Resource Team
Certified Registered Nurse Intravenous Therapy (CRNI) certification preferred.
Radiation Center
Oncology Nursing Certification preferred or working toward this goal.
Radiology Administration
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The department requires Conscious Sedation within six months of hire.
The department requires Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) training within 1 year of hire.
Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
Women & Children's Float Pool
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 12 months of hire/transfer.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification required within 12 months of hire/transfer.
