Job Description
This role will be responsible for completing various finance and technical accounting related responsibilities within Group reporting and Insights. In the short term the role will focus solely on delivering high-quality financial reporting, governance, and control over the Old Mutual Employee Share Schemes.
The role oversees IFRS 2 and share trust accounting processes, ensures compliance with audit and regulatory requirements, leads optimisation initiatives, engaging with teams across the Old Mutual Group and provides mentorship to junior staff. Key stakeholders will include the segment finance teams, the Human Capital Reward team, the Sharescheme Administration team and Treasury and Financial markets.
Key Result Areas:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and review high-quality AFS for share trusts with no significant SUADs or Audit findings.
Maintain detailed reconciliations of trust movements and having an in-depth understanding of these movements.
Generate management reports and analyse variances.
Provide commentary on results and corrective actions.
Support external and in ternal audit, ensuring timely completion.
High quality HFM submissions.
Regular check in to SARS e-Filing for correspondences/letters/notices, etc. to ensure timeous response.
Ensure accurate and valid payments process with all the appropriate authorisations.
Compliance with governance, regulatory, legal and accounting requirements.
IFRS 2 & ShareForce:
Responsible for end-to-end IFRS 2 reporting.
Maintain accuracy of ShareForce data.
Manage IFRS 2 and ShareForce audit queries.
Share scheme grant cycles:
Timeously prepare and send preliminary and final grant funding requirements to Employer Company.
Support Finance and Corporate Secretarial Representatives to support submissions to Board for S45: Financial Assistance resolution.
Timeously prepare and send final grant funding requirements to TFM in preparation for the purchase process.
Prepare and send grant funding requests to Employer Company Finance Representatives for timeously payment to ensure cash is available for the purchase of shares.
Request trade details to prepare SENS announcements and engage with Corporate.
Governance & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with IFRS, Tax Act, Companies Act.
Maintain strong financial controls and drive continuous improvements.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Maintain strong working relationship with the Sharescheme Administration team.
Developing solutions that work for both teams.
Maintain strong working relationships with Employer Companies’ finance teams.
Good planning and working relationship with the tax team to ensure timeous submissions.
Provide technical and analytical support to Human Capital and Group Finance in developing new incentive structures
People Leadership:
Lead and develop a team to manage the financial reporting of the share trusts.
Optimisation:
Simplification of share trust structures together with the simplification team.
Optimising financial reporting processes including improvements to ShareForce for financial reporting.
Review accounting treatment across share trusts together with the support of the technical accounting team.
Role Requirements:
CA(SA) with 10+ years post article experience, with at least 3 years with relevant experience.
Work experience within OML essential given the complexity of the area.
Demonstrated strong technical expertise in IFRS and financial reporting
Experience in Financial Services is essential
Demonstrated ability to manage complex senior‑level stakeholder relationships
