Job DetailsJob Location: Tigerville Campus - Tigerville, SC 29688Position Type: Full Time StaffEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeTravel Percentage: Up to 25%The assistant softball coach is responsible for assisting the head softball coach in all aspects of running an NCAA Division II Softball program including the evaluating and recruiting academically qualified prospective students-athletes, developing and implementing training sessions, practices and game plans, educating and coaching student-athletes, and supporting student-athletes in their personal, academic, spiritual and athletic development at North Greenville University. This full-time position reports directly to the head softball coach and athletic director and must act in accordance with NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas and North Greenville University rules, regulations and policies.
Position Responsibilities:
Assist the head softball coach in the day-to-day administrative responsibilities of running an effective Division II program, providing leadership, coaching and mentoring for members of the softball team.
Participate in the evaluation and recruitment of high-quality student-athletes, including recruiting travel and the planning of on-campus visits.
Identify, assess, and recruit skilled student-athletes with significant pitching potential who align with the academic and athletic standards of North Greenville University.
Collaborate with the Head Coach to formulate pitching strategies and game plans based on opponent analysis and pitcher strengths.
Assess opponent hitting patterns and relay pertinent information to the pitching staff.
Positively represent the softball program at recruitment events.
Participate in the overall development of student-athletes: personally, academically, spiritually and athletically.
Assist in on-field coaching and teaching; help plan and run training sessions and practices.
Scout opposing teams and assist in the breakdown of game film for teaching purposes.
Coordinate team travel including meals, shoot-around times and other related logistics.
Coordinate the scheduling of non-conference opponents.
Design and execute a comprehensive pitching development program that is in alignment with the Head Coach's philosophy and aims to optimize pitching performance.
Provide personalized instruction to help pitchers focus on mechanics, pitch development, mental approach, and injury prevention.
Create and implement effective pitching drills and practice schedules.
Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.
Foster and help maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as well as trust and mutual respect.
Foster and help maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to NCAA rules compliance Conference Carolinas, and institutional policies.
Participate in departmental activities including staff meetings, compliance education, diversity, equity and inclusion training, guest speaker presentations and other events/meetings.
Represent North Greenville Athletics with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
Fulfill other specific areas of responsibility to be assigned by the head coach.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Mobility ability to demonstrate basic softball skills, instruct a softball practice, move for 2 hours during practice sessions, lift softball equipment or other items of 50 pounds.
Hearing well enough to communicate with students and co-workers.
Visual ability to drive, read and use a computer.
Communication with students well enough to dictate instructions.
Cognitive/Emotional – ability to critically think and concentrate.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
The position is a full-time position in Athletics. The assistant softball coach reports directly to the head softball coach.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Coaches are required to work according to team schedules for practice, games, travel, and maintain normal office hours.
TRAVEL:
Travel is required for games, recruiting and attending conferences and other required meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Previous softball collegiate coaching experience
Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules compliance
Demonstrated skills and knowledge of recruiting as well as talent evaluation
Experience supporting the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes
Excellent interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong administrative and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines
Collegiate softball playing experience is preferred
