A Student Driver Trainee is an entry-level position designed for individuals who are preparing to obtain their commercial driver’s license (CDL) or professional driving certification. Under the supervision of experienced drivers and trainers, trainees will gain the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience required to become a competent and safe commercial or professional driver. This role involves both classroom instruction and practical, on-the-road training. Upon successful completion of the training program, Student Driver Trainees may qualify for full-time employment as CDL Driver.
Reports To
Operations Supervisor
- Attend and actively participate in all classrooms and behind-the-wheel training sessions.
- Learn to operate commercial vehicles.
- Follow company procedures and protocols regarding vehicle inspection, maintenance, and operations.
- Observe and practice proper vehicle handling, maneuvering, and defensive driving techniques.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe driving record throughout the training program.
- Demonstrate professionalism and customer service skills while interacting with clients, passengers, or other stakeholders.
- Complete assigned routes.
- Service portable restrooms, hand wash stations, and other company equipment to the expectations that meet or exceed the company’s standards for service.
- Complete and pass required written and road tests to obtain necessary driving certifications.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical exam, drug screening, and background check.
- Willingness to learn and adhere to safety regulations and driving best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
- Repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing up to 40lbs
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions while outside of the vehicle
