As a Platform Engineer Automation, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining automated platform solutions and standardised operating system images across our on premises and cloud environments. You’ll help improve reliability, security, and scalability, while making it easier for teams across the bank to adopt consistent, secure, and well-supported platform services.
This role is based in Auckland and sits within our Infrastructure Engineering function.
Ko tō mahi | What you’ll do
You’ll work closely with engineers, squads, and stakeholders to deliver automation that is practical, scalable, and easy to use across the bank. Your key responsibilities will include:
Design, build and maintain automated Image Factory solutions using enterprise tooling.
Develop and manage standardised Windows and Linux operating system images through automation.
Maintain and enhance configuration management and automation platforms.
Collaborate with application and platform teams to ensure OS image compatibility.
Perform rigorous testing, including regression, security, and performance testing.
Embed security controls and compliance standards into OS builds.
Document solutions clearly using a documentation as code approach.
Identify adoption gaps and help make platform services easier for squads to onboard to and use.
Drive continuous improvement aligned to Fix, Simplify and Automate.

Ideally 3 years experience in infrastructure or platform engineering.
Experience with Windows unattended installs and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Kickstart.
Experience with image build tools such as Packer.
Strong scripting skills in PowerShell and or Bash.
Experience using Git based version control tools such as GitHub or Bitbucket.
Exposure to CI CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CloudBees.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including VLANs, subnets and firewalls.
Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere and VMware Aria.
Knowledge of automation and configuration tools such as Terraform, Chef, or Ansible.
Familiarity with vulnerability and patching tools such as Nessus, MECM, or Red Hat Satellite.
Relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
Banking or regulated environment experience is desirable.
You’ll also bring strong stakeholder engagement skills, a growth mindset, problem solving capability, and experience working in agile environments.
