Mercy Hospital features a Special Care Nursery (Level II NICU) designed for babies born at 32 weeks or greater who require specialized care, premature support or monitoring for health concerns. The unit provides 24/7 care, featuring private rooms and kangaroo chairs for skin-to-skin contact. As an RN on this team, you will take care of babies in the Level II NICU as well as cross train in the post-partum area. Here, you will assist with vitals, breathing and feeding support, providing homegoing education to parents and more. Your work helps to provide the best possible outcomes for our littlest patients. Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM, with on-call requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Educate patients and their families.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within one year of hire
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross provider status within one year of hire
One year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Critical Care and/or NICU experience
